Okay, huge news for Jujutsu Kaisen fans! If you haven’t read the Modulo manga yet, be warned – spoilers ahead! It’s been a year since the main Jujutsu Kaisen story finished, and Gege Akutami is back with a sequel! This time, it’s called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and Yuji Iwasaki is helping with the art. The story jumps forward 68 years after the Culling Game. Imagine this: 50,000 aliens, called Simurians, who have powers just like Jujutsu sorcerers, arrive in Japan as refugees! Things have really changed for the Jujutsu world, curses are still a problem, and curse users are still out there. The story kicks off with some really sad news – Yuta Okkotsu has passed away, having exhausted himself not long after his wife, Maki Zenin, died. It’s a whole new era for the series, and I’m so excited to see where it goes!
Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, grandchildren who appeared briefly at the end of the original story, are now teenagers and working as jujutsu sorcerers. They investigate a case involving missing children and team up with Maru, a Simurian who is secretly working as an inspector alongside the sorcerers. The story follows both sides as they try to prevent conflict and find a way to live together peacefully. While the original story had a more gradual build-up, this new installment, Modulo, handles these elements—investigation, teamwork, and peaceful coexistence—more effectively.
3) The Sequel’s Characters Have More Depth So Far

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo really emphasizes character development right from the start. Even though the manga is only twelve chapters in, it spends more time exploring the characters’ backgrounds, relationships, and personal challenges than on action sequences. This makes it easy to become invested in their journeys and genuinely care about what happens to them as they navigate their lives.
2) The Central Plot Is More Defined

The upcoming Modulo series will be significantly shorter than the original, lasting only six months with three planned volumes. This is why Akutami is starting with a well-defined plot. Initially, the main story lacked a clear direction; many events, like Yuji’s near-death experience in the second arc, were improvised to prevent the manga from being cancelled. Unlike before, when Akutami needed shocking moments to maintain interest, they now have a solid plan for how the sequel’s story will unfold.
1) Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Expanding on the World-Building

The first story set up a lot of potential for the sequel, and now Akutami has a great chance to build out the world of Jujutsu Kaisen even further. We’re discovering that cursed energy isn’t just a human ability—an entire alien race can use it too. The sequel also seems to be diving into where these powers originally came from, something the main story never explained. Plus, readers are getting a closer look at the aliens’ home, culture, and civilization, expanding the scope of the series’ world.
