The Fantastic Four are Marvel’s original superhero team and have defined the company’s style for years. They were groundbreaking in how they combined action, family relationships, and science fiction, paving the way for the dramatic, character-focused stories Marvel is known for today. The team remains incredibly popular, as seen in the current critically acclaimed run by Ryan North and the success of Fantastic Four: First Steps. Above all, the Fantastic Four are a family, and their love for each other always drives their best stories. This works so well because they’ve been a team for so long and have a natural, strong connection.
As a longtime comic book movie fan, I’ve always loved the Fantastic Four. While Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben are the heart of the team, it’s easy to forget just how many heroes have worn the FF insignia over the years. We all remember Spider-Man and She-Hulk’s stints, but beyond those big names, there’s a whole roster of fantastic members who rarely get any attention. So, I decided to shine a spotlight on four truly great members of the team that most people have completely forgotten about.
4) Jack of Hearts

Jack of Hearts is a hero with the ability to project energy, a power he gained after being exposed to a substance called Zero Fluid. He briefly became a member of the Fantastic Four during a large-scale cosmic conflict known as the “Reckoning War,” which involved a battle between the Brotherhood of Badoon and the Watchers. What’s particularly compelling about Jack is his complicated romantic relationship with She-Hulk – they’re passionately in love, but often break up and reconcile, always maintaining deep feelings for each other. Watching him navigate his relationship with She-Hulk’s close friends in the Fantastic Four is entertaining, much like observing an awkward teenager meeting their partner’s impressive family.
3) Flux

Dennis Sykes, also known as Flux, is arguably the most heartbreaking figure associated with the Fantastic Four. He gained the power to control matter after bravely swallowing toxic chemicals to stop criminals, but this act also gave him terminal cancer, leaving him with very little time to live. Determined to use his remaining days for good, he joined the Fantastic Four during a crisis involving Ego the Living Planet. Flux successfully helped cure Ego of a dangerous tumor, but sadly passed away shortly after, forever remembered for his crucial assistance when the team needed him most.
2) Nova (Frankie Raye)

Frankie Raye shares a long history with the Fantastic Four, particularly Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. Her stepfather, Phineas Horton, created the original Human Torch android, and Frankie later gained similar powers in an accident. She became known as Nova and both joined the Fantastic Four and began a relationship with Johnny. They had a great connection, but their happiness was disrupted when Galactus threatened Earth. Frankie sacrificed her own happiness to become Galactus’s herald, which complicated her ties to the Fantastic Four, as they frequently clash with—and sometimes team up against—Galactus.
1) Namorita

Namor has a long history as an enemy of the Fantastic Four, largely fueled by his feelings for Sue Storm. Even now, he and the team can’t stand each other. This makes it especially amusing that Johnny Storm is dating Namorita, Namor’s cousin. She started dating Johnny to make her ex, Nova (Rich Rider, not Frankie), jealous. Johnny being with the cousin of the man his sister and brother-in-law despise – second only to Doctor Doom – is a guaranteed recipe for comedic chaos.
It’s clear Namorita and Namor shouldn’t get back together, but her time with the Fantastic Four did give us a fresh perspective on their relationship, which was interesting. It’s also funny how Namor has always pursued Sue Storm, while his cousin, Namorita, easily caught Johnny Storm’s attention – a bit of ironic, and satisfying, payback.
The Fantastic Four have several lesser-known members who often get overlooked – and there’s usually a good reason for that! Out of those supporting characters, who’s your favorite?
