These games have been released on almost every platform imaginable, from home consoles and computers to handheld devices and arcades. We’ve reviewed them all and compiled a list of the top five, ranked according to how critics received them when they first came out, how popular they were, and how well they sold.

5) Skynet

Skynet is a first-person shooter game created by Bethesda Softworks. It started as an expansion to The Terminator: Future Shock, but grew into its own separate game. Players navigate eight levels, completing objectives while battling various Terminators. The game offers a wide range of weapons and vehicles to use. When it was released, Skynet was praised for its innovative design, impressive graphics, and exciting deathmatch mode. Originally released for MS-DOS, it’s no longer easily playable on today’s computers. 4) Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 2: Judgment Day isn’t just a classic action-sci-fi film—it also inspired a hugely popular arcade game. The game was famously addictive, quickly using up players’ quarters, but it was so enjoyable that most didn’t mind. Released in 1991, it boasted impressive, realistic graphics and loosely followed the movie’s storyline. While originally requiring a lot of coins to complete, you can now experience the game at home with the Arcade1Up version, and it remains incredibly fun and replayable.

3) Terminator 2D: No Fate

Numerous games have been based on Terminator 2: Judgment Day, but Terminator 2D: No Fate is a particularly strong adaptation. Released in 2025 after a few setbacks, the game retells the story of the film. What sets it apart is its retro style—it’s a 2D side-scroller reminiscent of games from the ’90s, but with updated graphics and features. The game’s “No Fate” system adds replay value, as player decisions unlock different outcomes, weapons, and hidden areas. It’s a great addition to the Terminator series and highly recommended for fans.

2) The Terminator

Released in 1993 for the Sega CD, The Terminator game was based on the original movie. It used full-motion video clips from the film, which was a cool feature for the time. The game is a fast-paced, action-packed shooter with ten levels. Players control Kyle Reese as he fights Terminators in a 2029 facility, trying to reach a time machine and travel back to 1984. The first half of the game focuses on this mission, while the remaining levels involve protecting Sarah Connor from the Terminator sent to eliminate her. It’s a really enjoyable and well-made game, but sadly it’s never been updated to play on newer systems.

1) RoboCop Versus The Terminator

If you’re looking for a game that pits RoboCop against the Terminator, the 1993 release RoboCop Versus The Terminator is the one to play. The Sega Genesis version is considered the best, thanks to its development by Virgin Games and unique game engine. The story centers on how RoboCop’s technology is used to create Skynet, and he’s the only one who can prevent humanity’s destruction. The game jumps between the present and a future where RoboCop must rebuild himself to finally defeat Skynet. It’s an enjoyable experience featuring two iconic cyborg characters, but unfortunately, it’s not currently available on modern gaming systems.
