5 of the Most Absurd Games Ever Made

When you really think about it, many video games are based on pretty wild ideas. Take Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog – they’re not meant to be realistic, and that’s part of what makes them enjoyable. In fact, most games aren’t realistic, and players don’t expect them to be. But some games take absurdity to a whole new level, and are just plain ridiculous. Surprisingly, that doesn’t make them bad! Often, the crazier the concept, the better the game. We’ve compiled a list of five of the most absurd games we could find, presented in no specific order.

1) Who’s Your Daddy

“Who’s Your Daddy” is a 2016 video game designed for two players. One player takes on the role of a father, and the other controls a mischievous baby. The father’s job is to keep the baby alive, while the baby player tries to find increasingly dangerous and funny ways to… well, not survive. It’s a silly concept – one player attempts baby-style suicide, and the other frantically tries to stop it – but it’s surprisingly enjoyable, particularly when played with a friend. The game originally took place in a house, but a later version added a new training area called The Baby Daddy Academy, along with an updated version of the original house map.

2) Mountain

Okay, so Mountain is seriously one of the strangest games I’ve ever played. It’s just… unlike anything else out there. The whole idea is completely absurd – you literally play as a mountain, just floating in space. That’s it! You can spin it around and look at the stars, but there’s no objective, no points, nothing to do really. And yet, it’s surprisingly fun and really relaxing! It doesn’t have any of the usual interactive stuff you expect from a game, but somehow it just works. It’s been a huge hit too – thousands of positive reviews on Steam, and you can pick it up for under a dollar! It’s just… a weirdly wonderful experience.

3) LSD: Dream Emulator

Even the title of LSD: Dream Emulator hints at how bizarre it is, but the game is surprisingly deep. It doesn’t have any real goals – you simply wander through a dreamlike world where interacting with anything transports you to another equally strange location. The game was created to highlight the artistic potential of video games, and it succeeds brilliantly. While LSD: Dream Emulator is definitely odd and psychedelic, it’s also visually stunning and surprisingly calming. It’s an experimental game in many ways, but it feels just as much like a work of surreal art.

4) Hatoful Boyfriend

In the game Hatoful Boyfriend: A School of Hope and White Wings, you play as the only human student at St. PigeoNation’s Institute, a school filled with intelligent birds. It’s a unique romance simulation where you attend classes, build relationships, and try to find love amongst your feathered classmates. Despite its unusual premise, Hatoful Boyfriend has become very popular, earning thousands of positive reviews on Steam, where it’s available for $9.99.

5) Goat Simulator

At first glance, Goat Simulator is a deliberately silly game that embraces its absurdity. You play as a goat in an open world, and the main objective is simply to cause chaos and destruction. Originally created as a quick joke project, the game proved so funny that the developers decided to fully finish and release it, eventually leading to a series of games. This includes Goat Simulator 3 – a title chosen to continue the joke, as there isn’t actually a Goat Simulator 2.

Okay, so I’m really curious – what’s the weirdest, most out-there game you’ve ever played? I’d love to hear about it! Let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum – come share your stories now!
