Everyone anticipates the cast of Avengers: Doomsday will get much larger before the movie comes out in December, considering how many familiar faces are currently absent. Characters like Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) are almost certainly going to appear, and there’s buzz about some unexpected additions too. While fans are hoping for a few surprises to be kept under wraps until the premiere, that seems doubtful. Fortunately, we’re now learning about the steps Marvel and the directors took to maintain secrecy.
Alan Cumming, known for his role in the original X-Men films, has shared that the cast list for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday isn’t complete. He told Deadline that the sequel includes surprise characters who were even hidden within the script itself, while discussing his reprise of the role of Nightcrawler in the major Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
This movie feels overloaded with superheroes – there are just too many to follow! The scripts themselves are tough to read because they’re packed with constant action and complicated character names. To keep plot twists secret, characters were often referred to by code names, which made everything even more confusing.
Alan Cumming Reveals How Much Nightcrawler is in Doomsday

Looking back on his career, I was really struck by what Alan Cumming had to say about his experiences on set. He described the making of X2 as a truly difficult time, highlighting a problematic work environment and even a cast protest. He contrasted that sharply with Doomsday, which he found surprisingly positive. He specifically praised the Russo brothers for creating a much better atmosphere, and everyone being so friendly. It’s interesting to hear he’s still involved too – even though principal photography wrapped last September, he’s heading back to Pinewood Studios to shoot a few extra scenes! It sounds like a much more pleasant experience this time around.
Cumming recently shared some news about his role in Doomsday that fans might not be thrilled with: he won’t be in the movie much. Despite the limited screen time, he enjoyed revisiting the character and found it fun to play a superhero at his age. This raises questions about how long the original X-Men team will last in the story, or whether only certain cast members will move to a different universe. While it seems likely the original timeline won’t last long, it would be disappointing if all the X-Men were eliminated before they could appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s hard to shake the feeling that the filmmakers might be using familiar faces to emphasize the danger posed by Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
