The Absolute line has been very successful for DC Comics, but Absolute Wonder Woman stands out as a particularly popular and well-regarded title. It was among the first books in the Absolute series and has quickly gained a large readership. Absolute Wonder Woman consistently ranks among the top 20 best-selling comics each month. Even those who aren’t fans of the regular Wonder Woman series generally agree that this edition is one of Diana Prince’s strongest stories in recent years.
What makes the Absolute Wonder Woman series so captivating? What sets it apart from the regular Wonder Woman comics and makes it truly special? It could be the consistently excellent artwork and writing by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman—they’re a fantastic team. Or perhaps it’s the exciting weapons, allies, and enemies featured in the story. There are many reasons why Absolute Wonder Woman is a great series, and here are five that might convince you to give it a read if you haven’t already.
5. Her Weapons/Magic

This version of Wonder Woman, from the Absolute Universe, had a very different upbringing. Instead of being raised on Themyscira, she was raised in Hell by the witch Circe, making her incredibly skilled in magic. She can cast powerful spells – some have even silenced entire cities, or allowed her to grow to gigantic sizes! Beyond her magic, she also wields mystical weapons, including a lasso that forces people to confront their guilt and another that can completely transform anyone it binds. With so many hidden abilities, Absolute Wonder Woman always keeps you guessing what she’ll do next.
4. The Supporting Cast

Wonder Woman is a beacon of hope, and even though she’s a relatively new hero, she’s quickly gained a loyal group of friends. This diverse group includes Steve Trevor, Barbara Minerva, and the Candy sisters, Etta and Gia, who come from backgrounds ranging from the military to the world of research. They all happily assist Wonder Woman whenever she needs help. While many fans are debating who might end up with Steve or Barbara, it’s wonderful to see Diana surrounded by such supportive people.
3. The Villains

A compelling hero needs strong villains, and Wonder Woman definitely has them. The main antagonist in this series is Veronica Cale, a National Security Adviser who is determined to defeat Wonder Woman at all costs. Beyond Cale, Wonder Woman has battled well-known villains like Doctor Poison and Giganta, and even had a brief encounter with Zatanna. So far, the writer’s choices of villains have been excellent, and it’s exciting to think about who she’ll pit Wonder Woman against next.
2. The Epic Designs/Artwork

The art in this series has consistently been fantastic. I especially admire Sherman’s work, from the details of Diana’s costume to the impressive depictions of the Greek Gods – it all feels both grand and new. But it’s not just Sherman; artists like Mattia De Iulis and Matías Bergara have also contributed stories that perfectly capture the energy fans love. This series rarely disappoints visually, and the quality is evident throughout.
1. Wonder Woman’s Amazing Compassion

You know, when I think about why I love this Wonder Woman book so much, it’s not just her strength or how fun she is to watch. It’s her heart. This series really digs into what makes these characters them, and with Diana, it’s her incredible compassion. She genuinely cares about everyone – from frightened children to even the most monstrous creatures, she’ll go to any length to help. It’s refreshing to see a superhero story driven not by powers or battles, but by a hero’s unwavering belief in the good in all of us. That’s what really makes this book special to me.
