5 Upcoming 2026 Horror Movies We Can’t Wait to See

Even though it’s only February 2026, this year is already looking like a fantastic one for horror movie fans. Big-budget films such as 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Primate are raising the bar, and smaller, independent movies like Iron Lung show that audiences are still eager for unique and unusual horror experiences.

There are a lot of highly anticipated horror movies still on the way this year, making it tough to follow everything. Luckily, a few are already getting attention, though sometimes for all the wrong reasons.

The original Faces of Death series, created by Gorgon Video, is still considered one of the most shocking and debated film series ever made. Although writer-director John Alan Schwartz and actor Michael Carr added a narrative to the first film in 1978, the series was always known for mixing real footage of tragic events with staged scenes.

A new film, released on April 10th, builds on the disturbing legacy of the original Faces of Death. It follows a video platform moderator who discovers a group of people online seemingly attempting to replicate the murders shown in the original film. While this premise is sure to grab fans of the genre, it remains to be seen if this new version can deliver a more structured and coherent story than the original series ever did.

I’m really excited for the next film from Rhys Frake-Waterfield! It’s part of his ‘Twisted Childhood’ series, and it follows a character who decides to take matters into his own hands and eliminate everything he sees as wrong with the world. Knowing the previous films, it’s going to be incredibly dark and violent – honestly, I think it’s going to really upset some people who grew up with these classic characters, but in a good way!

Featuring horror stars Robert Englund and Richard Brake as The Cricket and Geppetto, Pinocchio: Unstrung is shaping up to be director Frake-Waterfield’s most ambitious film yet. If it’s well-received, it could be the project that truly establishes the Twisted Childhood Universe and helps it reach a wider audience within the horror genre.

As a movie critic, I’ve definitely noticed a growing weariness with superhero films among audiences. Honestly, it feels like we’ve been hitting a saturation point for almost ten years now – people just aren’t as excited as they used to be.

James Watkins and Hossein Amini are directing Clayface, a new series starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. Hagen is a promising actor who seeks out cutting-edge medical treatment after a violent attack leaves him scarred. While drawing inspiration from classic Clayface comic books, the series will focus on suspense and psychological thrills rather than typical superhero elements.

Tommy Wirkola has worked on various projects, but he’s best known among horror fans for the fantastic, yet overlooked, Dead Snow series. Now, he’s preparing a new kind of survival horror film for audiences, though the details are still emerging.

Originally planned for release in 2024 as the survival thriller Beneath the Storm starring Phoebe Dynevor, the film went through several changes. It was briefly renamed Shiver, but didn’t gain much traction. Then, in January, Columbia Pictures sold the rights to Netflix, who put the project back to being untitled. These shifts suggest director Timo Wirkola may have been given the opportunity to rework the film and create a more intense version specifically for streaming.

Get ready, horror fans! This July, the Evil Dead universe is expanding with a brand new standalone story. I recently learned that Sébastien Vaniček, the director behind last year’s surprisingly effective French horror film Infested, is at the helm. If you enjoyed Evil Dead Rise from 2023, this, Evil Dead Burn, looks to deliver a similar, fresh take on the classic franchise.

Featuring actors from popular shows like Wednesday and Daredevil: Born Again (Hunter Doohan), The Night Agent (Luciane Buchanan), and Dune: Part Two (Souheila Yacoub), Evil Dead Burn promises another group of characters who will accidentally uncover a frightening new side of the Evil Dead world. Hopefully, at least one of them will survive, though the odds are likely stacked against them from the very beginning.
