A third spin-off series is in the works for The Big Bang Theory, but this one will be quite different from the previous shows. Creator Chuck Lorre is again working with Bill Prady to expand the universe of the popular sitcom. This new series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, will center around Kevin Sussman’s character Stuart Bloom and will also feature returning favorites like Denise (Lauren Lapkus), Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn), and Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie) from The Big Bang Theory.
Following the continued success of The Big Bang Theory through reruns and streaming, there’s a lot of excitement building for its spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. HBO Max has begun promoting the show, sharing initial photos and details. These details suggest Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will be different from what fans expect from the original series.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Is A Full-On Sci-Fi Show

The new show, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, will be a true science fiction series, a shift from the more realistic style of previous shows in the franchise. While The Big Bang Theory often included scientific ideas, it was fundamentally a show about friends navigating life as young adults. Young Sheldon began similarly but evolved into a family comedy/drama, a focus that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continues. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, however, will follow the characters as they travel between different realities, trying to prevent their destruction.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Is Not Focused On Any Member Of The Coopers

I’ve been a big fan of the whole Big Bang Theory universe, and it always felt like Sheldon Cooper was the heart of it all, which is why they made Young Sheldon! Seeing how much people loved the Cooper family led to Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and now it’s already on its second season. But I just learned that the new show, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, will be different. It’s the first time in almost 20 years of these shows that a member of the Cooper family won’t be the main character. It’s a little strange, but I’m still excited to see what happens!
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Is The Big Bang Theory’s First Sequel Series

So far, all the shows connected to The Big Bang Theory have been prequels, looking back at events that happened before the original series. The first spin-off, Young Sheldon, followed Sheldon Cooper’s childhood and early years at Caltech. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continued the story of the Cooper family, picking up right after Young Sheldon ended. Now, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is different – it’s the first show set after the finale of The Big Bang Theory. While it’s not yet clear exactly how much later the events take place, being a sequel gives the show a chance to update fans on what the characters from Pasadena are up to now.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Is The First TBBT Show Not Releasing On CBS

It’s been almost twenty years since The Big Bang Theory first aired, and all shows in that universe have always been on CBS. But that’s changing with the new sitcom, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which will debut on HBO Max in July 2026. CBS executives say they hoped to continue airing the show, given how well The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon have done. While not as popular as those hits, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is currently the top comedy on network television. Because Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is moving to a streaming service, its first season will be shorter, with only 10 episodes.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Focuses On A “Plain” Lead

The world of The Big Bang Theory has always revolved around exceptionally bright characters – Sheldon in the original series, a young Sheldon in Young Sheldon, and then Georgie, a surprisingly savvy businessman, in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Now, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is breaking the mold by focusing on Stuart, an ordinary guy. This isn’t necessarily a drawback, just a change of pace. In fact, having a relatable, everyday protagonist could make his journey throughout the series even more compelling and satisfying.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is set to premiere this July.
