Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! One Piece is quickly moving towards its final battle, and things have already kicked off in Elbaph with an attack on the Giants by the Holy Knights. For years, fans have expected the Elbaph arc to be incredibly important, and so far, it’s living up to the hype. Even though the main conflict hasn’t fully begun, the arc has already revealed a lot of key information, including the introduction of the Holy Knights, the truth about Rocks D. Xebec, Blackbeard’s origins, and much more. Now that the flashback about King Harald is finished, the story returns to the present fight, with Luffy and Loki working together to protect the island.
Currently, they’re by far the strongest fighters on the island, and seem unbeatable as a team. Luffy’s Gear 5 is a transformation into the Sun God Nika, a legendary warrior from the stories of the Giants. Nika existed centuries before the current era, but his story was lost to time. Anyone who worshipped the Warrior of Liberation was wiped out by the World Government, similar to what happened to the Buccaneer Clan. The Giants are the only ones who still remember Nika’s legend, as the Sun God had a significant connection to them in the distant past.
One Piece Chapter 1175 Sheds More Light on Nika’s Origins

The Giants were struck by how much Luffy resembled the figure of Nika, leading them to believe he truly is the Warrior of Liberation. Meanwhile, Loki’s Devil Fruit – which grants him the ability to transform into a massive dragon – seems to have a link to Nika as well. This fruit has been a treasured secret of Elbaph for centuries, guarded by the legendary warhammer, Ragnir, which prevented anyone from consuming it. Loki was the first person in hundreds of years chosen by Ragnir, and the power he gained from the fruit is incredible.
According to Jarul’s account of the legend, a powerful Warrior God with Devil Fruit abilities used the weapon Ragnir and transformed into a dragon to battle Nika. While the specifics of this fight remain unknown, the story suggests Nika’s connection to the island of Elbaph is more complicated than previously thought. Nika first appeared five years ago in Chapter 1018, initially only as a silhouette, and remains a mysterious figure. However, the latest chapter, 1175, brings fans closer to understanding the truth. The chapter concludes with Imu sensing Loki’s dragon form, known as Nidhoggr, and expressing curiosity about its reappearance.
