6 Underrated Spider-Man Villains We’re Desperate To See in Live-Action

Spider-Man is a hugely popular and recognizable superhero, but many of his villains don’t get the recognition they deserve. From the very beginning of his comic book run, Spider-Man has resonated with fans worldwide, and his numerous movie and TV adaptations prove just how beloved he is. Some of the most memorable moments in Spider-Man’s history have come from the battles with his enemies. A great hero needs compelling villains, and Spider-Man arguably has one of the strongest groups of antagonists in the entire Marvel Universe.

Spider-Man’s movie villains have drawn from a lot of different sources in the comics, which is great. However, many fantastic villains from the comics haven’t made it to the big screen yet. We’re excited to see these underappreciated characters get their chance to shine in future Spider-Man movies, both in terms of their stories and how they look.

6) The Spot

The Spot quickly established himself as a promising villain with his first appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. His power to create portals – allowing travel through space and even different dimensions – is both a threat and a fascinating ability, making him a strong opponent for Spider-Man. Thanks to his role in the Spider-Verse films, more people are now aware of the character, and fans are excited about the possibility of seeing him in a live-action movie.

5) Mister Negative

Mister Negative is a relatively new villain in Spider-Man’s world, and he’s unique because he has two sides. He can appear as a generous benefactor, using the power of Lightforce, or transform into the cruel crime boss, Mister Negative, fueled by the Darkforce. With his striking appearance and potential for impactful stories, he’s a villain fans are eager to see brought to life on screen.

4) Hammerhead

Because Spider-Man often deals with threats on a more personal, neighborhood scale, many of his enemies feel grounded and believable – especially when compared to other Marvel villains. Hammerhead is one such villain; he’s a member of a New York crime family called the Maggia, and his skull has been replaced with a nearly unbreakable steel plate, giving him a unique appearance. He’s a villain who would translate well to a live-action film and fits the tone of the more down-to-earth stories Spider-Man is currently telling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

3) Scorpion

Scorpion will be a villain in the upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and fans are excited to see him fight Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. While Mac Gargan briefly appeared in 2017, this will be the first time we see him fully transform into the Scorpion. Many consider Scorpion to be one of Spider-Man’s most overlooked villains, making his full debut in Brand New Day a highly anticipated moment.

2) Black Cat

Bringing Black Cat to life on screen has proven difficult, though a version of Felicia Hardy will appear in Spider-Noir. While not strictly a villain, she’s often been an opponent for Spider-Man in the comics, alongside being a recurring romantic interest. She’s a compelling and realistic adversary, but also a great ally, and fans are eager to see her finally appear in a live-action movie or show.

1) Hobgoblin

As a huge Spider-Man fan, there are so many villains I’m dying to see on the big screen, but Hobgoblin is right up there as one of the best yet to make an appearance. He’s consistently portrayed as one of Spidey’s most formidable foes in the comics, and with the MCU introducing Ned Leeds as Peter’s best friend, it feels like they’re setting up a future storyline where these two become enemies. Honestly, seeing that dynamic play out would be amazing, and I’m really hoping they go that route!
