7 A-List Actors You Forgot Were in Batman Movies

Batman is a globally recognized character, but many of the supporting characters in his films haven’t left a lasting impression. Over the years, numerous actors have portrayed Batman, each striving to create a unique interpretation of the Dark Knight. Of course, Batman’s stories also include villains, their helpers, and allies, alongside the citizens of Gotham City who frequently find themselves caught in the crossfire of these conflicts.

We often remember the main actors who play Batman and his villains, but it’s easy to forget the talented performers in smaller roles. This happens even when those actors are famous, as Batman himself usually steals the show. Here’s a look at some big-name actors you might have forgotten appeared in Batman films.

7) Jack Palance in Batman (1989)

Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker in the 1989 film Batman is considered one of the best live-action versions of the character, and his lively performance was captivating. This is likely why many viewers didn’t notice Jack Palance, who played Grissom, the Joker’s former boss. The Joker brutally kills Grissom and takes over his criminal organization, overshadowing Palance’s role.

6) Paul Reubens in Batman Returns (1992)

Tim Burton’s Batman films are fondly remembered, and for good reason – they were groundbreaking for superhero movies. While Batman Returns has many iconic characters, a surprisingly overlooked one is Paul Reubens’ short appearance as Penguin’s father. He only appears in flashbacks explaining Penguin’s past, portraying a snobbish, upper-class man distinguished by his monocle and, most notably, his decision to abandon his baby son.

5) Jon Favreau in Batman Forever (1995)

While not a fan favorite, Batman Forever features some surprisingly memorable cameos. One notable appearance is a young Jon Favreau briefly seen in the background during Bruce Wayne’s visit to Edward Nygma’s lab – he looks very young! This role came early in Favreau’s career, shortly before he became well-known, and it marked his first of many appearances in superhero films.

4) Drew Barrymore in Batman Forever (1995)

Despite being considered a weak entry in the Batman film series, Batman Forever featured a remarkably talented cast. A prime example of this is Drew Barrymore, who appeared as a small supporting character named Sugar, an assistant to the villain Two-Face. It was surprising to cast such a famous actress in a relatively unimportant role, and as her character doesn’t impact the story, many viewers don’t even remember she was in the movie.

3) Aiden Gillen in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

While Aiden Gillen isn’t a household name for everyone, he gained international recognition for playing Littlefinger in Game of Thrones. He also appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, but his character—a CIA operative—was quickly killed off by Bane, and many viewers don’t even realize it’s him. Despite his success with Game of Thrones, people often miss his brief appearance in the film.

2) Glenn Powell in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Glen Powell is now a major star, but he actually had a small role early in his career in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. He appeared in The Dark Knight Rises as a stock exchange trader who gets knocked out by Bane. While a recent story he shared about filming the scene brought attention to his appearance, it’s easy to miss him in the movie because he looks so young and the part is brief.

1) Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Batman vs Superman (2016)

Many people forget that acclaimed actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan had a role in the DC movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He played Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne, and was joined by his The Walking Dead co-star Lauren Cohan as Martha Wayne. Because his appearance was brief and uncredited, it’s easy to miss – making it one of the more overlooked celebrity cameos in a superhero film.
