DC Comics is famous for its epic battles between heroes and villains, like the ongoing conflicts between Batman and the Joker, and Superman and Lex Luthor. While villains sometimes work together to overcome a bigger threat, their self-serving nature usually leads to infighting and betrayal. Many of DC’s most well-known villains have developed fierce rivalries with each other, driven by ego, a desire for more power, or simply the wish to be the one to defeat a hero. Here’s a look at some of the most intense clashes between DC’s greatest villains.
Supervillains are usually focused on defeating heroes, but occasionally they’ll turn on each other, eliminating rivals who get in the way of their plans.
7) Deathstroke and Deadshot

In DC Comics, Deathstroke and Deadshot are often considered the deadliest assassins. Deadshot is the more accurate shooter from a distance, but Deathstroke excels in hand-to-hand combat. They’ve clashed many times over the years, usually while pursuing their contracts. However, beneath the surface of these fights is a constant competition to prove who is the ultimate killer. As long as both remain alive, Deathstroke and Deadshot will continue their silent, competitive rivalry.
6) Harley Quinn and Punchline

For a long time, Harley Quinn was known mostly for her harmful relationship with the Joker, where she always did what he said, even when he was cruel. But after Harley left him, the Joker found a new partner, Punchline. Unlike Harley, Punchline was already dangerous and violent before she met the Joker, and their relationship was much more balanced. Punchline is deeply envious of Harley for being the Joker’s first love and wants to kill her to prove she’s his true partner. Harley, on the other hand, sees Punchline as a reminder of her own past and the abuse she experienced.
5) Killer Croc and Bane

As a huge Batman fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the battles between Killer Croc and Bane! These two are easily the strongest villains Batman faces, and they’re constantly trying to prove who’s the tougher one. Seriously, whenever they meet, it almost immediately turns into a brawl. It’s funny, because for all their muscle, a lot of their fights actually come down to who’s thinking smarter. Bane usually wins because he’s so strategic, and that just makes Killer Croc even more desperate to take him down. It’s a really cool rivalry!
4) Sinestro and Atrocitus

Sinestro and Atrocitus, the leaders of the Yellow and Red Lantern Corps, share a deep-seated hatred for each other that rivals their animosity towards the Green Lanterns. Long ago, before Sinestro turned to villainy, he was a top Green Lantern and actually captured Atrocitus, who blamed the Guardians and Green Lanterns for the destruction of his home sector. Even after forming their own Lantern Corps, their rivalry continues. Sinestro aims to eliminate anyone who threatens his plans for universal conquest, including the Red Lanterns, while Atrocitus is determined to make Sinestro and his Yellow Lanterns answer for the many lives lost due to their actions.
3) Joker and Riddler

The Riddler is driven by a need to prove he’s better than everyone else, which makes him resentful of the Joker’s reputation as Batman’s greatest enemy. The Joker, who thrives on chaos, is fiercely protective of being the one to challenge the Dark Knight. This tension exploded in the “War of Jokes and Riddles,” a gang war between the two villains that nearly destroyed Gotham City. Ultimately, their conflict comes down to their massive egos and differing approaches to villainy.
2) Ultraman and Owlman

Superman and Batman are famous for their complex relationship as both friends and rivals. However, their evil counterparts from another Earth, Ultraman and Owlman, share no such bond. Though they’re both founding members of the villainous Crime Syndicate, they’re constantly fighting the urge to kill each other. Ultraman’s violent nature clashes with Owlman’s cold, calculating cruelty, leading to power struggles and arguments over who should lead the team. To make matters worse, Owlman is having an affair with Ultraman’s wife, Superwoman, a secret they both enjoy using to torment him. Ultimately, they see each other as disposable tools to maintain their control, and won’t hesitate to betray each other when one is no longer useful.
1) Darkseid and Anti-Monitor

Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor are two of the most powerful and dangerous villains in DC Comics history. They’ve each caused the deaths of countless beings and are determined to rule everything that exists. During a massive event called Crisis on Infinite Earths, Darkseid severely weakened the Anti-Monitor, eventually leading to his defeat. However, the Anti-Monitor got his revenge during the Darkseid War, attacking Darkseid’s armies with a powerful force of Shadow Demons, and Earth was caught in the middle. Ultimately, the Anti-Monitor defeated and destroyed Darkseid. It’s inevitable that these two incredibly evil beings will clash again in a final showdown.
