A popular anime, now available on Crunchyroll, recently received disappointing news about a potential new season, eight years after its initial run ended. Many major anime series have returned in recent years with new seasons, reboots, or sequels, and fans have been hoping to see more of this particular show. However, there’s been little news since its fourth season concluded in 2018.
The anime High School DxD hasn’t had a new season since 2018, but the original story continued in other formats, including a sequel. Many fans were hoping for a Season 5, but Jamie Marchi, an English dub voice actor, recently shared that there’s still no progress on a new season, stating, “I still haven’t heard anything about a fifth season.”
High School DxD Gets Unfortunate Update on Season 5

The anime adaptation of High School DxD has had a complicated release history. It’s gone beyond the original light novels by Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero, adding original content, and even tried a full reboot after the first adaptation took liberties with the story. The fourth season, High School DxD Hero, which came out in 2018, is a significant departure from the previous three, featuring a completely new team and production studio.
The fourth season of High School DxD, titled High School DxD Hero, aimed to be a more faithful adaptation of the original light novels. The studio was instructed to avoid the significant story changes that occurred in the first three seasons. Unfortunately, it remains the last anime installment for the series, which is disappointing given the wealth of source material still suitable for adaptation in the future.
Will High School DxD Season 5 Ever Happen?

The team behind the anime High School DxD has expressed interest in continuing the series after season four ended several years ago, but there’s been no official announcement. While fans have hoped for things like a movie, it’s becoming less likely after nearly a decade. However, it’s still possible, as many other anime series have been revived after long breaks.
Like any other series, High School DxD could potentially return, but a complete restart seems more likely. It would probably be more successful to create a new anime series adapting the story from the beginning for a new audience, rather than trying to continue the story with a possible fifth season.
