Nine classic games from the NES and SNES have quietly been released on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. While there are no plans yet to release these games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Switch owners can still play them on PS5 thanks to compatibility features. These releases will likely be especially appreciated by longtime Nintendo fans looking for a bit of nostalgia.
Sickhead Games and Rock It Games have announced two new game collections for Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store. Each collection costs $7.99. One collection, Jaleco Sports: Goal! 2, features the NES games Goal!, Goal! 2, and Goal: Two, plus the SNES game Super Goal! 2. The other collection, Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded II, includes the NES games Bases Loaded II: Second Season and Moero!! Pro Yakyuu ’88 Kettei Ban, along with the SNES games Super Bases Loaded II, Super 3D Baseball, and Hanguk Pro Yagu.
Very Nostalgic NES and SNES Games
The trailer shows that these games haven’t been updated or rebuilt – they’re simply re-released in their original form. These collections are clearly meant for fans who remember playing these classic NES and SNES games, not to draw in new audiences.
Jaleco, the company behind these re-releases, no longer exists. It closed down in 2014 after operating for 51 years since its founding in 1974. Though not exclusively a video game company, Jaleco was most recognized internationally for games like City Connection, Bases Loaded, Exerion, and Rushing Beat. With developers and publishers increasingly looking to the 1990s for reliable and cost-effective projects—rather than investing in expensive new game development—it’s not surprising to see these older, niche sports games making a comeback.
