American Dad! is making its way back to its initial network, Fox, and will air new episodes next year. The show’s producer hinted at the possibility of a movie in the future; however, fans might have to be patient for it to materialize. After experiencing several shifts since its first appearance, American Dad! moved from Fox to TBS for more than a decade. When it appeared that the animated series was nearing its conclusion, it was miraculously revived and is now returning to Fox.
The animated sitcom “American Dad!” has been given another four seasons by Fox, bringing its total episode count closer to 400. There’s speculation about whether it might also get a feature film at some point. Matt Weitzman, one of the show’s executive producers, expressed interest in making a movie, but for now, they plan to continue producing episodes.
American Dad’s Movie Is Going to Take a While
The team behind “American Dad” was renewed for four more seasons, meaning they’ll produce an additional 56 episodes. There may be a “American Dad!” movie in the future, but for now, it looks like they’re focusing on the TV series and will continue to do so. Despite their interest in making a full-length film, their current tasks appear to keep them quite busy with just the television show.
The animated series American Dad! boasts a promising outlook, as it has been renewed for four more seasons on Fox. During the show’s San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel, creator Mike Weitzman announced a shift in how they write the show to accommodate broadcast television. This adjustment primarily involves avoiding explicit language such as “shit” and “God damn it.” However, Weitzman expressed eagerness about this change, stating that they won’t have to resort to creative workarounds to keep audiences entertained. He is thrilled to share that another 56 episodes of American Dad are on the way.
When Does American Dad Come Back?
In 2026, American Dad is set to resume on Fox during their Animation Domination programming block with fresh episodes. The specific premiere date for the new season has yet to be announced, but when it does air, it will surpass the 400-episode milestone. Notable guest stars joining the show in its upcoming season include Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson, Joe Mantegna, Chris Pine, Ming Na Wen, RuPaul, Wayne Newton, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Jonathan Frakes, and Kyle Maclachlan.
Regarding the 400th episode, Weitzman hinted that it will revolve around Stan being close to death on a mission, coming back home to discover he’s been swapped out by a clone. This sounds intriguing for the show since Stan has encountered future versions of himself, doubles, and various quirky counterparts up until now. It seems like this significant episode might bring a nostalgic vibe as well. In the meantime, don’t forget to catch up on all episodes of American Dad via streaming on Hulu.
