Machine Gun Kelly recently disclosed that he turned down a significant movie part, “Sinners,” due to reservations about the script. In an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, the musician and actor clarified why he declined to try out for Ryan Coogler’s upcoming film Sinners, despite initial intentions to portray a crucial vampire character.
Machine Gun Kelly refused to say the N-word for Sinners’ audition
Machine Gun Kelly explained that he refused the role because the script included a racial slur.
As a prospective cast member, I found myself on the verge of joining the crew of this film, taking on the role of a vampire. However, during the audition process, I was asked to utter a racial slur that I refused to say.
In simpler terms, Kelly explained that the role at hand was “Bert,” a Ku Klux Klan member who was transformed into a vampire by the character Remmick, played by Jack O’Connell. However, this part ended up being given to Peter Dreimanis in the film. The cast also includes Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Miles Caton.
During the interview, Kelly expressed his strong desire to appear in films, but unfortunately, his dreams haven’t quite materialized as he had hoped. He mentioned that there have been numerous movies released where he felt a sense of regret, thinking, “If only I were cast in that movie,” or “I even auditioned for that role.
During the live broadcast, co-host Darius Butler showed agreement with Kelly by giving her a friendly bump of fists. Additionally, the musician expressed his desire to act in movies while he remains youthful, expressing confidence that opportunities will present themselves, saying, “Things will fall into place. The angels will arrange something.
On August 8, 2025, Kelly’s anticipated album titled “Americana” is set to be unveiled. In a recent conversation, he shared insights about his latest creation, a college football theme song called “don’t wait, run fast,” as well as his water fasting adventure and other personal endeavors.
In a roundabout manner, Kelly didn’t explicitly mention the filmmakers, but she hinted at the movie title and the surrounding narrative. The movie “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler, has garnered notice due to its daring themes and unconventional casting decisions.
