Every Live-Action Spider-Man Costume, Ranked

A key aspect of being a superhero is appearing credible and well-presented, as it significantly impacts public perception. While confidence alone might allow someone to don a pair of tights, the general populace may not take kindly to a sloppy or unimpressive appearance. Characters such as Tony Stark understand this, hence his meticulous selection of color schemes for his Iron Man armors and providing appropriate attire for fellow Avengers to maintain their dignity during Earth-protecting missions.

However, not every comic book hero has the luxury of billions in disposable income to fund such fashion decisions. Characters like Spider-Man must make do with a sewing machine and a strong will, starting from scratch to create an iconic superhero persona.

In total, there have been five distinct live-action portrayals of the Web-Slinger, giving us an abundance of costumes to analyze. It’s important to note that not all Spidey suits are made from the same material – some truly shine among their counterparts. Here you’ll find every live-action Spider-Man suit, ranked in order of distinction.

15) First TV Costume (The Amazing Spider-Man)

This task involves contrasting old suits from the 1970s with today’s designs, which may seem unfair but is necessary for understanding. For instance, in the The Amazing Spider-Man TV series, Nicholas Hammond donned a costume that was baggy, had small eyes, and web-shooter bracelets attached to it. The only appealing aspect of this outfit is its adherence to the character’s classic red and blue color scheme.

14) Japanese TV Costume (Spider-Man)

In my critique as a movie enthusiast, I must say that shortly after Spider-Man graced our screens in America, he swung into action on Japanese television too. The costume of Shinji Tōdō, while an enhancement over his American counterpart, boasts comic-accurate eyes, which is commendable. However, the praise ends there, as unfortunately, this version lacks many appealing elements.

13) Wrestling Suit (Spider-Man)

In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Peter Parker seeks additional income by attempting wrestling after uncovering his extraordinary powers. Donning a ski mask and racing gloves for his entrance, his initial performance is somewhat outlandish. Although the costume was intended to appear comical, it doesn’t necessarily warrant such a high ranking on any list.

12) First Costume (The Amazing Spider-Man)

Once more, I find it challenging to move past the unique appearance of the eyes on the Spider-Man suit from the rebooted version. Instead of sticking with the usual white lenses, they opted for a yellow tint that feels out of place. Additionally, there seems to be an insufficient amount of red in the outfit, making the striking blue shade take on most of the emphasis.

11) Stark Suit (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

It’s hard to erase from memory that moment in “Captain America: Civil War” when Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man was seen holding Steve Rogers’ shield. The hero’s actions were seamless, and at first, his suit seemed to match the perfection. But upon closer examination, the Stark suit had a few flaws, such as a tiny logo and peculiar patterns.

10) Night Monkey Suit (Spider-Man: Far From Home)

In Europe, when Peter needs to tackle crime instead of his usual duties as Spider-Man, he can’t wear his familiar outfit because it would give him away. Instead, Nick Fury provides him with a covert look that leans more towards a spy than a superhero. Although the costume has a few unnecessary gadgets, its distinctive lenses make it a worthwhile change.

9) Inside-Out Suit (Spider-Man: No Way Home)

Everyone understands the frustration of spoiling a cherished garment, like their favorite shirt, but Spider-Man doesn’t have the luxury of replacing his entire suit in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Instead, he turns his red and black suit inside out, unveiling its intricate inner mechanisms. While this new appearance certainly catches the eye, it’s hard for it to stand alongside the more established designs.

8) Homemade Costume (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Custom-made attire often receives negative criticism as they’re not particularly impressive. However, Spider-Man: Homecoming’s homemade costume bucked this trend, sporting a red pullover vest and goggles. It’s unfortunate that Peter Parker only wore the outfit in a single movie because it ranks among the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s finest designs.

7) Integrated Suit (Spider-Man: No Way Home)

Indeed, opting for simplicity isn’t always the most effective choice, as the movie “No Way Home” demonstrates. In the climactic battle, Peter adopts an attire inspired by his red and black suit and the Iron Spider suit. Although the ensemble appears crowded, the harmonious blend of gold, red, and black makes it effortless to overlook any potential problems.

6) Red and Black Costume(Spider-Man: Far From Home)

After obtaining Stark technology in “Far From Home”, Peter adopts a fresh appearance that signifies he’s prepared for challenges ahead. The bold red and black design momentarily overshadows the traditional red and blue, marking his transition into the subsequent Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film.

5) Symbiote Suit (Spider-Man 3)

In Spider-Man 3, Peter develops an extraterrestrial acquaintance who transforms his Spidey suit from red and blue to black. This transformation is subtly done yet visually stunning. The fact that the suit’s webbing remains visible, a departure from how it appears in comics when Peter bonds with the symbiote, adds a realistic touch, maintaining a sense of authenticity amidst the movie’s audacious narrative.

4) Iron-Spider Suit (Avengers: Infinity War)

When Iron Man invites Spider-Man to join the Avengers, he gives him a completely revamped suit compared to his previous one. Known as the Iron Spider armor, it boasts four legs useful in emergencies and the gold accents that enhance the elegance of the Integrated Suit. The illuminated eyes are the cherry on top, creating an iconic costume for all time.

3) Main Costume (Spider-Man Trilogy)

Although the Raimi costume lacks legs and expressive eyes, it holds a special place as the initial live-action Spider-Man suit, which makes it notable. Tobey Maguire’s suit fits impeccably and includes a logo and webbing that subsequent costumes have attempted to replicate. The subdued color scheme is also beneficial, preventing the Web-Slinger from appearing overly cartoonish in his debut on the big screen.

2) New Homemade Suit (Spider-Man: No Way Home)

In the final scenes of “No Way Home”, Peter’s suit, though briefly shown, is one of his best looks within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The color combination is spot on, and the webbing details on the feet and chest are a faithful representation of the original comics. It might not reappear, but it will be challenging to surpass this suit in “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start”.

1) Second Costume (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

In the transition between the two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, there’s been an unprecedented enhancement in the costume design. Peter Parker swaps out his yellow lenses for reflective ones, offering viewers a glimpse of the city as seen through Spider-Man’s eyes. The colors and webbing undergo an upgrade too, imbuing Spider-Man with a more heroic feel rather than a vigilante vibe. However, it’s worth noting that the suit from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” doesn’t make as frequent appearances in live-action scenes as one might hope.
