The Best Pixar Movie Is Coming to Marvel Comics (But Not How You Think)

Among the most recognized films in Pixar’s collection is marking its 30th anniversary. From young to old, people have come to associate Pixar with producing top-quality, unique stories for the big screen. There’s one thing you can depend on when it comes to a Pixar film – it will touch your heart and leave you feeling emotionally drained once it ends. Over time, Pixar movies have led to sequels and television adaptations, but the next stage in a Pixar production is being developed by Marvel Comics. Both Pixar and Marvel fall under the Disney umbrella, and this new collaboration pays tribute to the first Pixar movie that began it all.

Marvel Comics honors the 30th anniversary of Disney and Pixar’s inaugural “Toy Story” film by unveiling three comic book covers that pay tribute to it. Originally released in November 1995, “Toy Story” was the first movie produced by Pixar to hit theaters. The beloved characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the “Toy Story” gang have since appeared in four more films, with “Toy Story 5” set for release next summer. Additionally, Buzz Lightyear starred in a spin-off movie, voiced by Chris Evans, who is famous for his role as Captain America.

As a dedicated movie critic, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about an upcoming comic book crossover that will surely tickle the fancy of Toy Story fans like me! The renowned Disney comic book artist Marco Forcelloni, along with illustrator Nicky Nicotera, are set to reimagine classic Marvel Comics covers. Instead of the usual superheroes, these masterful artists will breathe life into our beloved Toy Story characters, transforming iconic cover art from titles like Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America, and Avengers! Keep your eyes peeled for this unique mashup in November’s issues!

On the cover of “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Woody is depicted swinging on a lasso, with one of the three-eyed Little Green Men tucked under his arm, mirroring the iconic Spider-Man pose from 1962’s “Amazing Fantasy” #15. In the “Avengers” cover, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, another Little Green Man, and Jessie are portrayed as Earth’s mightiest heroes when Captain America officially joined their ranks. Lastly, Buzz Lightyear is shown in space for the “Captain America” cover, paying tribute to the secret agent Nick Fury from “Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.” #6.

Toy Story 5 Brings Back Some Familiar Faces

In June, Pixar unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming film Toy Story 5. This new installment showcases the comeback of beloved characters like Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and Bullseye. A puzzling situation unfolds as they encounter a modern children’s electronic toy named Lilypad. The gadget displays text bubbles on its screen, but their contents are unclear. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, revealed that Jessie has taken charge of the toys in Bonnie’s room, with Buzz Lightyear acting as her second-in-command. The story revolves around how they cope with Bonnie, who is now 8 years old, showing less enthusiasm for her traditional toys.

As a die-hard Toy Story fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! Remember how heartwarming and emotional the ending of Toy Story 4 was, with Woody choosing to be a “lost toy” alongside Bo Peep? Well, rest assured that Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, has promised us that Toy Story 5 won’t undo or lessen that powerful conclusion. Mark your calendars for June 19, 2026, because we’re all in for another adventure with our beloved toys!
