BBC confirms release of “inspiring” Ozzy Osbourne documentary filmed in final chapter of his life

The BBC has announced a moving new documentary about the late Ozzy Osburne.

Titled “Ozzy Osbourne: Returning Home,” this heartfelt documentary delves into the final phase of Ozzy’s life, offering a unique and close-up look at the entire Osbourne clan, featuring Sharon, Jack, and Kelly.

Over a span of three years, this documentary chronicles the extraordinary journey of Sharon and Ozzy as they strive to realize their dream of returning to the United Kingdom. Simultaneously, Ozzy fights to regain his physical fitness to deliver performances, and the family faces the intense repercussions of his health issues that unfold along the way.

The documentary will air on Monday 18th August at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

76-year-old rock legend Ozzy Osbourne tragically passed on, a mere twenty-three days following his last performance with Black Sabbath at their home city of Birmingham, where the concerts concluded.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I’d describe this documentary as a heartfelt rollercoaster ride filled with genuine affection, infectious laughter, and poignant tears – just like the kind you’d experience during those unforgettable family moments that the Osbournes are so renowned for.

This heartfelt and inspiring homage pays tribute to one of the world’s legendary figures. It reveals the first family of rock music grappling with the realization, as Kelly expresses in the movie, that ‘Iron Man wasn’t truly made of iron.’

Clare Sillery, BBC’s Head of Commissioning for Documentaries, expressed gratitude for the chance to film with Ozzy and his family. The film offers an intimate look at their preparations for moving back to the UK, featuring family interactions, humor, introspection, and showcasing the resilient spirit that has made Ozzy a worldwide phenomenon. We hope it brings solace and delight to Ozzy’s fans and viewers as they reminisce about and celebrate his remarkable life.

The Executive Producers, Ben Wicks and Colin Barr, expressed their gratitude for having spent the past few years with Ozzy Osbourne, along with Sharon, Jack, and Kelly. They mentioned that Ozzy desired to return to the UK for one final performance on stage, and the film they produced encapsulates this inspiring and emotional journey of his dream coming true.

Ozzy’s global fanbase adored him not only for his music but also for his playful spirit and truthfulness, traits that were evident throughout his later years. However, what truly stood out to us was Ozzy’s profound love for his remarkable family who stayed by his side through thick and thin. Above all else, this unwavering love shone the brightest.
