Josh Brolin recently discussed his decision to forgo the role of Hal Jordan in DC’s Green Lantern series, titled “Lanterns”. In a recent chat, he reminisced about that choice, drew parallels with turning down the part in Avatar, and revealed which rejection was more challenging.

In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Brolin was asked to choose between two potential projects – DC’s Green Lantern series or Lanterns – that were the most difficult to turn down. Brolin explained that instead of choosing between these roles, he had been approached for another project: James Cameron’s Avatar. Specifically, he shared that he was considered for the part of Colonel Miles Quaritch, a role eventually taken by Stephen Lang.
I’ve developed quite a enthusiasm for Lanterns! You know, I’ve heard about Green Lantern and learned that it stars Kyle Chandler and Paula Patton – folks I’ve worked with before on a pilot. Honestly, I can hardly contain my excitement to watch it! I’m a big fan of Kyle Chandler; he’s truly remarkable in his acting. I think this is going to be fantastic!
Prior to choosing Kyle Chandler for the role of Hal Jordan in DC Studios’ Green Lantern project, they had initially considered several other actors for the part of the Lanterns. Paula Patton was mentioned in relation to this project by the actor, but no official announcement has confirmed her participation yet. As of now, DC Studios hasn’t revealed any further details about her possible role; however, whispers suggest that she might be cast as Carol Ferris.
During the interview, Brolin discussed his history and upcoming projects with Marvel, expressing his readiness to reprise his role as Thanos. If Marvel were to summon him in London today and say, “Let’s do it,” he would reply, “I’ll be there tomorrow.” The actor reminisced about Marvel’s secrecy during filming and how the Thanos character evolved beyond the initial small appearance plan. “It turned into something much bigger,” Brolin concluded.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can say that playing Cable in Deadpool 2 was an experience I’m grateful for, but one that left me yearning for more. To put it simply, it was a chapter in my acting journey that I’m content to have under my belt. However, these words have sparked whispers among fans, suggesting there might be less Cable action from me in the rumored X-Force movie.
Despite being included in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe plans, Chris Hemsworth seems to be focusing more on furthering his partnership with the Russo Brothers for possible upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects such as Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
