As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must share some disappointing news – the spine-tingling adventures of Goosebumps have come to a chilling halt on Disney+. Regrettably, it appears that this thrilling horror anthology will not make a comeback on the streaming service.

This new season, which began at the start of the year, is inspired by the works of author RL Stine (known for children’s and young adult books). It features David Schwimmer, a well-known actor from the show “Friends,” as part of its main cast.

In a surprising twist, the iconic sitcom star played the role of Anthony Brewer, a botanist, who found himself in a more mysterious setting as his own children uncovered an old enigma concerning the vanishing of multiple students from his past school.

For now, Disney+ will not be telling any more Goosebumps stories, as confirmed by industry news outlet Variety this week, following the show’s cancellation after completing only two seasons.

The report notes that Sony Pictures Television intends to seek a new platform for the series given its impressive global viewership of nearly 120 million streaming hours of Goosebumps so far, suggesting they see continued potential in it.

One potential option under consideration is a soft reboot, which could be a fresh take on the story, with references to earlier versions such as a popular ’90s TV series and two movies featuring Jack Black from Minecraft and Wendi McLendon-Covey from The Goldbergs.

Ana Ortiz and Isabella Ferreira, former stars of Disney’s Love, Victor, have joined the cast of Goosebumps for its second season. They will be sharing screen time with Sendhil Ramamurthy from The Couple Next Door, who also has a guest role in this series.

Because the series structure aimed to encompass a wide range of characters from Stine’s books, the first season introduced a completely new set of actors – among them were Rachael Harris, known for her role as Lucifer, and Isa Briones, recognized from Star Trek: Picard.

In this new version of Goosebumps, the idea originated from filmmakers Rob Letterman (from Detective Pikachu) and Nicholas Stoller (known for The Muppets). However, they eventually passed the leadership role to executive producer Hilary Winston, who is also known for her work on Community.

As a cinephile, I’ve got to say, Goosebumps Season 2: The Vanishing really hits its stride! By the sixth episode, I found myself on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating how each secret would unfold.

Although the series offers a compelling conclusion, the drawback lies in the extended duration dedicated to less engaging character dynamics, which ultimately detracts from both the show’s overall quality and the impact of David Schwimmer’s performance.

Goosebumps seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Disney+.
