Sam Nivola is weighing in on Lochlan Ratliff’s future.
Despite the fact that the actor from The White Lotus saw his character depart Thailand following an unsettling incest storyline with brother Saxon (portrayed by Patrick Schwarzenegger) and a close brush with death, he is convinced that the 18-year-old needs to mature further.
Nivola shared with TopMob News’ Will Marfuggi at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles on August 7 that he believes the individual is yet to find clarity in his life. He suggested that the person might still be grappling with inner turmoil, but expressed hope that one day, things will improve for him. (Tune in to TopMob News on Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 p.m., for more red carpet interviews.)
But that’s merely a guess.
After a four-month gap since the season three finale of the series created by Mike White aired, the 21-year-old hasn’t given much consideration to what might happen next to Lochlan, following the near-fatal incident involving his father Timonthy (Jason Isaacs) attempting to harm his entire family in Thailand.
Nivola commented, “The series was released such a long time ago, now when it comes to discussing ‘White Lotus’, I find myself at a loss for words.
What continues to linger in Nivola’s thoughts could be rephrased as: The intense anger shown by fans, due to Lochlan’s neglect in washing the blender after making deadly smoothies with it for his family during their tropical getaway, remains a significant issue on his mind.
The actor reminisced about responding to questions from strangers on the street regarding a specific matter. Living in New York, he often encounters people asking him, “Why didn’t you clean the blender while filming?” Frankly, he hadn’t considered it during production. He doesn’t believe it’s that surprising.
Nivola went on to say, “It seems like Lochlan was trying to get closer to Saxon by finishing off his protein drink.
Moreover, he thought, “What’s the point of remaking lemonade if you just discard the old one and start fresh? Why bother cleaning the pitcher in between? It’s still essentially the same drink, isn’t it?
Despite any debates, the actor from the popular series “The Perfect Couple” is currently enjoying the acclaim following season three, which garnered an impressive 23 Emmy nominations this year.
He was quite impressed, as this was only his second television show. Being part of such a highly-acclaimed series feels like winning the lottery – sheer luck that he was chosen from many others to embark on this journey.
He further mentioned that the experience was incredibly enjoyable and he formed some truly valuable friendships within the ensemble of celebrities. And as far as he is concerned, these are the aspects that matter most.

In the meantime, keep reading for everything we know (so far) about The White Lotus season four.
In January, it was announced that HBO had renewed the popular show “The White Lotus” for a fourth season, even before the third season began airing, following pitches from series creator Mike White for more episodes filled with wealth, violence, and chaos.
Casey Bloys, HBO’s CEO, mentioned during a meeting with journalists in November that if Mike is serious about progressing and completing the four seasons, he would certainly work on the fourth season.
Production on season four will likely kick off in 2026, according to Variety.
The big mystery is where the production team behind the show will shoot season four, though they’ve been offering subtle clues.” This version aims to maintain a similar tone and style while providing a clearer understanding of the original meaning.
Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, shared with Deadline in February that they will be scouting potential locations over the next few weeks. She hinted that it’s likely their new project will be based somewhere in Europe, but couldn’t specify the exact location.
Chances, she emphasized.
In Orsi’s words, there are certain nations marked on our map that we discussed, however, there’s no news to share until these places have been physically visited for location scouting.
In an interview with HBO following the April 6 season finale, White expressed his desire to move away from the “constant crashing of waves against rocks” style for the upcoming season.
“But,” he added, “there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
During his visit to Sydney for the Vivid Festival in June 2023, White additionally expressed Australia as a long-desired travel destination.
He expressed enthusiasm, saying, ‘This promises to be incredibly enjoyable!’ The abundance of skill and the undeniable attractiveness make it seem as if everything one could want is present.
The possibilities are virtually unlimited, with one exception: So far, a corpse in the snow hasn’t been part of the series’ storyline, and it seems that a luxurious ski resort might not be on the agenda. In an interview with The Guardian in February, Producer David Bernad mentioned that Mike isn’t fond of cold weather.
Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the Emmy-award-winning composer responsible for the theme music of “White Lotus,” will not return for season four due to creative differences that date back to the show’s initial season.
Tapia de Veer explained to the New York Times in an April 2 interview that it felt strange since a few months ago, he informed his team that he would not be returning and was leaving. However, he chose not to inform Mike for several reasons; he planned to tell him at the last minute to create a shock effect. (Although White did find out before the end of the season, he said.)
Tapia de Veer told the New York Times that it was unusual because he’d informed his team months earlier that he wouldn’t return and would be leaving. He decided not to tell Mike until the last minute to create a shocking impact. (However, White did find out before the season ended.)
Regarding the memorable theme tune composed by Tapia de Veer for season one (which was also used in season two), he noted that it ultimately proved successful, but creating it was a challenging process as White initially did not wish to have a theme song.
As a dedicated follower, I felt compelled to revamp the opening sequence for season three on my own accord, despite not being instructed to do so. This decision sparked quite a stir among the fans.
Following its release, I found myself receiving calls from TMZ, as well as individuals from England and France, seeking a comment regarding the topic change. It seems many are upset by this shift, which I found intriguing. I reached out to the producer and suggested that at some point, we could offer them the extended version with the ‘ooh-loo-loo-loos’, as I believe people would be thrilled to discover it was planned all along. The producer agreed. However, Mike ultimately decided to omit that part, as he wasn’t satisfied with it.
In other words, the composer stated, “By then, it seemed like we’d fought for the last time, don’t you think? He was simply refusing any proposals.
On The Howard Stern Show on April 8th, White criticized Tapia de Veer’s actions as underhanded or ungentlemanly, by expressing his complaints in such a manner.
White expressed that they are unsure of the circumstances leading up to the departure of the individual, but have since been reading their interviews as it seems they’ve initiated a public relations effort regarding their exit from the program. In White’s opinion, the person did not show them due respect.
In my line of work, I’ve always found it more accurate to say that there wasn’t a full-blown conflict between us. He might use the term ‘feud,’ but in reality, it was simply me offering constructive feedback and suggestions.
During the initial two seasons, their partnership was successful, as stated by White, due to the exchange of ideas. However, by season three, Tapia de Veer expressed a preference to work independently, showing less interest in receiving feedback from me, refraining from taking my notes, and avoiding meetings.
And, White added, “He’s definitely making a big deal out of just a creative difference.”
Delighted was White to learn that Jon Gries, the actor who portrayed Tanya’s enigmatic suitor Greg in season one and her cunning husband in season two, consented to return for season three, taking on the role of the sinister widower Gary. However, Gries hinted that Gary (formerly known as Greg) may no longer be around, if his information is correct.
However, that’s what he thought last time.
He expressed to The Hollywood Reporter after the conclusion of season three that although he’s uncertain, he doesn’t plan on returning. However, he added, “Every time I depart, I believe that’s the end.
Despite the temptation to rebuild resorts from scratch after each season, as White mentioned to The New Yorker, “I could destroy a house at the end of every season and then rebuild,” the series has demonstrated that if characters aren’t deceased, they often return for future seasons.
Mike White’s actions are hard to predict, confessed Gries to THR. “I never assumed I’d be part of season two or even season three,” he continued. “Each new season brings an element of surprise from him. I’d be thrilled to return, but does the storyline for Greg seem fully wrapped up? I can’t reveal that.
In simple terms, apart from a prequel or a scenario involving multiple universes, there seems to be no means for Jennifer Coolidge’s character Tanya to reappear, except perhaps in a scene that takes place in the past (flashback) or in a dream sequence. However, since her dramatic fall off a yacht at the end of season two left fans wondering about her fate, many have hoped for her return in future seasons.
White expresses regret over the absence of Coolidge, yet doesn’t challenge the choice to eliminate Tanya, who despite her good intentions and wealth, was naive and excessively wealthy.
In an interview on TopMob News in January 2023, following the season two finale of White Lotus, Coolidge expressed that White remained firm in his choices. He added, “White is a fantastic friend, but I believe he’s made up his mind. He aimed for a grand, dramatic, Italian, almost operatic conclusion for White Lotus 2, and he was willing to sacrifice Tanya.
As a lifestyle expert, I can share that I won’t be gracing the beautiful shores of Thailand for season three. In a candid conversation with The New Yorker, I admitted, “It seems Tanya may never return, so I must embrace this reality.
