Xbox will reintroduce select uncommon controllers for Xbox Series X and Series S users by the end of the year; however, a precise date has not been disclosed as of now. In the current Xbox Series X and PS5 console era, it’s clear that Xbox has excelled in controller design, particularly with regards to customization and variety. While some might favor the PS5 DualSense controller over the Xbox Series X|S one, the latter boasts a much wider array of unique releases and customization options. To further enhance its offerings, Xbox recently re-launched the Xbox Design Lab, and will also resurrect two highly sought-after limited-edition Xbox Series X controllers that were previously discontinued.
The initial controller we’re discussing is the unique Xbox controller that CD Projekt Red and Microsoft launched for “The Witcher 3.” Featuring a distinctive design inspired by the game, it was specifically released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” this year. Both a standard controller priced at $79.99 and an Elite Series 2 Core controller priced at $169.99 were made available. They sold out incredibly fast, and neither has been restocked since.
Apart from the current offerings, the limited-edition “DOOM: The Dark Ages” Xbox controller is making a comeback. Similar to the one designed for The Witcher 3, this controller was initially offered in two versions – a standard edition priced at $79.99 and an Elite Series 2 Core edition for $169.99. However, due to high demand, it quickly sold out and hasn’t been restocked since.
I’m excited to share that we’re looking forward to some changes later this year, as the controllers are set to make a comeback! Unfortunately, I don’t have an exact date yet, but it seems like both versions of each controller might reappear. The vague information on the return of the second version suggests it could be happening, though.

It’s unclear if these new Xbox controllers will be part of the permanent lineup or special, limited releases. Given the rarity of Xbox bringing back limited edition controllers, it seems likely they will be the latter. However, since this is the first time in this console generation that Microsoft has done this, we don’t have a lot of past examples to base our expectations on.
Certainly, as new details emerge, we’ll make sure to revise the story accordingly. For the moment, it seems Microsoft has chosen not to disclose any further information about this topic.
