Fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the DC Universe’s success, particularly after the impressive box office performance of Superman. There’s great interest in learning not only how James Gunn and Peter Safran plan to introduce additional heroes on the big screen, but also who will portray these characters. The casting choices for David Corenswet, Edi Gathegi, Isabella Merced, and Nathan Fillion as iconic DC characters have been well-received, with many hopeful about Milly Alcock’s role as Supergirl. However, since the announcement of a Wonder Woman reboot by Gunn and Safran, there has been much speculation regarding who will take over the role, replacing Gal Gadot.
As an ardent follower, I can’t help but be thrilled by the tantalizing sneak peek of Alexandra Daddario potentially stepping into the role of Wonder Woman. A piece of fan art from @dferg24 on DeviantArt has sparked our imagination, depicting Daddario in the likeness of the Amazonian princess and superheroine. Known for her roles in Baywatch, The White Lotus, and Mayfair Witches, this artwork sees her leaping through a city street in the iconic attire of Diana – the bracelets, tiara, and red boots reminiscent of Lynda Carter’s costume from the 70s TV series. Despite being a fan creation, it’s hard not to see Daddario as a strong candidate for embodying Diana Prince in the DCU.
Daddario Only One Actress Floated to Play Wonder Woman by Fans
Previously, Daddario has expressed being “pleased” when fans suggest her for the role of Wonder Woman in interviews. The actress could embody a more traditional version of Diana from the Silver Age comics. However, it appears she might face some competition. Fans have also been advocating for May Calamawy from Moon Knight and Melissa Barerra from Scream to land the role. Additionally, there’s an overwhelming enthusiasm among fans for Adria Arjona from Star Wars: Andor to play Wonder Woman, with even Gunn expressing his agreement regarding her suitability for the character.
Despite DC Studios’ Co-Chairman not providing firm comments about casting a new Diana, Gunn expressed in June that Arjona would be an excellent Wonder Woman. Back in 2016, Arjona played a role in The Belko Experiment, a horror film written and produced by Gunn. This might give her an advantage over other candidates for the part, considering their prior collaboration.
Regardless of who gets cast as Wonder Woman, they’re bound to have a busy schedule, as Gunn has revealed that there are two projects centering around her in the pipeline. A standalone DCU movie for the character is being written, while hints suggest that a TV series focusing on Diana’s homeland Themyscira is also underway. Moreover, it’s possible she could appear in various other DCU films, given that Wonder Woman is a key member of the Justice League and occasionally a love interest for Superman.
