It seems that Death has more unresolved matters, as a new film in the long-standing “Final Destination” series is now being developed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lori Evans Taylor, who co-wrote “Final Destination Bloodlines,” will be penning the upcoming movie. Previously, this film was a successful surprise for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., as an R-rated movie grossed $285.3 million globally on a budget of approximately $50 million. This marks the sixth installment in the horror franchise, with Taylor working alongside Guy Busick on the screenplay, based on a story they created with Jon Watts.
In simpler terms, “Final Destination Bloodlines,” being the sixth film in the series, is its most successful installment yet within this popular franchise. The initial film, “Final Destination,” was launched in 2000 with a global box office collection of $112.8 million on a budget of just $23 million, setting the stage for New Line Cinema’s new horror franchise. Over the years, the franchise has seen numerous plot developments. Although it’s been over two decades since the series began, telling stories about Death, the “Final Destination” franchise has continued to add fresh elements, such as in “Final Destination 5,” which functions as a prequel to the original film, and most recently with “Final Destination Bloodlines.”
The “Final Destination” series revolves around characters who experience eerie premonitions of disastrous and fatal events. These individuals somehow evade death along with a few others, but it’s eventually revealed that Death is an indomitable force that cannot be outwitted; survivors are inevitably claimed one by one. The movies appear in the following order: “Final Destination 5,” “Final Destination,” “Final Destination 2,” “Final Destination 3,” “The Final Destination,” and “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” Interestingly, “Bloodlines” adheres to the series’ main theme while also functioning as a prequel and sequel by incorporating elements of the story that date back to 1968.
In an unexpected turn of events, not only did “Final Destination: Bloodlines” become a significant box office success for New Line Cinema, but it also resonated positively with critics, marking the sixth installment of the franchise as a hit. As of now, “Bloodlines” boasts an impressive 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 200 reviews. For context, the original film, “Final Destination,” received a modest 49% from critics, while “Final Destination 5” managed to earn the franchise’s second-best rating with 64%.
In addition to contributing to the script for “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” Lori Evans Taylor also held the position of lead writer for the TV series “Wicked Wicked Games” and penned the scripts for the horror films “Cellar Door” and “Bed Rest”. The seventh installment of “Final Destination” is set to be produced by Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor (a franchise veteran), as well as Watts and his wife Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich. Warren Zide will also serve as an executive producer for the film.
The movie ‘Bloodlines’ in the ‘Final Destination’ series, directed by Zack Lipovsky and Adam Stein, can now be streamed on HBO Max.
