One notable Chicago television universe, which encompasses NBC’s three popular series, appears to be facing some changes in its cast following the speculation about the departures of Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett from “Chicago Fire.” Now, it seems that “Chicago P.D.” may be experiencing a significant shift as Toya Turner, a series regular who previously starred on “New Amsterdam,” has reportedly been let go from her role as Officer Kiana Cook. This change occurred between the Season 12 finale in May and the upcoming Season 13 premiere this autumn, according to the 2025 TV schedule.
It’s disappointing that she didn’t get a proper goodbye in the Season 12 finale, and I can’t help but worry if P.D. will manage this departure similarly to how they handled another series regular’s exit mid-season.
Chicago P.D. Is Losing Toya Turner
Toya Turner recently joined the main cast of “Chicago P.D.”, and fans last saw her as Kiana Cook in the Season 12 finale (currently streaming with a Peacock subscription). According to Deadline, Turner will not reappear when “P.D.” returns for Season 13, signifying that this could be her final appearance. This is unlike the scenario when Jesse Lee Soffer’s departure was announced during summer break, but he later returned for additional episodes before being phased out.
The reason for Turner’s exit as Cook is reportedly unknown, but I’ve been waiting for the shoe to drop for a Chicago P.D. or Chicago Med cast member after Fire cut two series regulars ahead of the fall season. The actress herself confirmed the news on Instagram, posting:
After a memorable journey on Chicago P.D., it’s time for me to move on. This show has pushed me, honed my skills, and shown me my true mettle. Throughout this experience, I’ve grown not only as an actor but also in my artistry. I step forward with newfound insight, conviction, and energy, ready to face whatever lies ahead. To the cast and crew: thank you for the camaraderie, laughter, and kindness you brought each day. It was a privilege to work alongside such gifted individuals. To the ChiHards: your acceptance, encouragement, and affection for Kiana have been overwhelming. And to everyone who has supported me: your faith in me is priceless. I’m eagerly anticipating the next chapter.
Although I wasn’t surprised when another One Chicago series regular left and it was apparent that this character might be the first to depart, I can’t help but remember Toya Turner’s heartwarming tales about being embraced by the cast, even LaRoyce Hawkins assisting her in selecting a couch. Cook’s intricate past also suggested there were many engaging stories yet to unfold.
Overall, I’ll surely feel her absence, Kiana Cook, and I can only hope for the next few months that Toya Turner doesn’t become another character who left the series like a previous main cast member.

Yes, I Still Want To Know What Happened To Rojas
Let’s travel back to Season 7 of Chicago P.D., where Lisseth Chavez made her mark as a series regular, playing Officer Vanessa Rojas. Her character had an intriguing past, a potential romance with Atwater (Hawkins), and a charming friendship with Upton. However, Rojas was absent from the show after the summer break between Season 7 and Season 8, and since then, she has not reappeared or been referenced much beyond the seventh season finale in early 2020.
Despite the fact that Lisseth Chavez may never return, I wasn’t prepared to let go of Rojas. I was yearning for answers. Why did she leave the Intelligence Unit during the transition between seasons? Where has she gone? Is she still with CPD? I even inquired from showrunner Gwen Sigan if we might catch a glimpse of her again in 2022, nearly two years after Season 8 debuted without any hint of Rojas.
I’m not too optimistic that solutions will emerge, but I’ll move my expectations to the possibility that Toya Turner’s character Kiana Cook may eventually receive some clarification regarding her absence. This is somewhat analogous to how P.D. addressed Antonio’s whereabouts after Jon Seda was written off. If I never receive an explanation for Rojas, I’d be content with just a nod to the fact that Kiana Cook was missing from the storyline.
Currently, you have the opportunity to rewatch the entire seasons of Cook’s and Rojas’ appearances on Chicago P.D. on Peacock at your convenience. Additionally, you can catch up on Chicago Med and Chicago Fire as well. All three series will resume their weekly broadcasts on Wednesday evenings this fall.
