In the second season of “Dandadan,” fresh episodes drop every Thursday, keeping fans guessing with unexpected twists. The current storyline revolving around the Evil Eye spirit inside Jiji is particularly suspenseful because the spirit could overtake him at any moment and cause chaos. To keep this from happening, the main characters have been taking numerous precautions, but so far without much success. Given the circumstances, Momo’s grandmother, Seiko, proposes that the best course of action now is to expel the Evil Eye from Jiji. For this mission, Seiko enlists the help of outsiders – a rock band named Hayashi – who, although they can’t see evil spirits, possess a song powerful enough to drive them away.
Following this, something truly astonishing unfolded. The anime expanded a brief scene from the manga, which was originally concluded in just five pages, into a four-minute sequence. Though the original rock song, “Hunting Soul,” with its separate Japanese and English dub versions featuring the lead vocals of famous rock bands, surpassed fan expectations, it’s possible that an earlier scene in the episode might have been missed by some viewers. This particular moment, when Hayashi starts setting up, bears a striking resemblance to the opening sequence of the 1985 film “Back to the Future,” where Marty McFly prepares to perform a song.
Science Saru Incorporates the Opening Sequence From Back to the Future in Latest Dandadan Episode
Huge reference to “Back to the Future” in “DanDaDan” episode 18.

As an avid anime fan and a huge admirer of Science Saru’s work, I can’t help but notice their exceptional attention to detail in bringing Yukino Tatsu’s manga to life through their anime adaptation. In the latest episode of Dandadan, they subtly paid homage to the iconic Back to the Future, a move that truly warmed my heart!
In an effort to make a simple moment stand out, just before the Hayashi Band performs their exorcism song, they set up their instruments in a way that will leave you reminiscing about Marty McFly. The sound effect of the sonic wave gradually building as they complete the setup is strikingly similar to the opening sequence of the first Back to the Future movie! It’s these thoughtful touches that make me appreciate Science Saru even more.
The visuals closely resemble specific details, such as the labels on certain instruments and the glimmering pre-strike gleam on a guitar pick. Although viewers may not have anticipated such an unconventional homage, it has been well-received. This indicates Science Saru’s commitment to creating Dandadan with unique touches and also underscores the team’s extensive knowledge of pop culture, as they enrich scenes with references to famous franchises. It’s not uncommon for such references to appear; previous episodes have included instances like the final act of the William Tell Overture, hinting that Dandadan will likely continue to draw inspiration from popular culture in future episodes, much to the pleasure of fans who appreciate its engaging narrative.
