The popular series “King of the Hill” is back on Hulu, streaming fresh episodes! In this latest season, character Hank Hill experiences a full circle moment through an unexpected victory against his dad, Cotton. One of the captivating aspects of the original King of the Hill show was the relationship between Hank and his father Cotton. Although Hank often found himself exasperated by some of Bobby’s antics, it was evident that Hank was a more lenient and less abusive parent compared to how Cotton was raised by his own dad. This history played a significant role in shaping Hank’s perspective on parenting.
Throughout the initial run of “King of the Hill,” the dynamic between the characters was challenged on numerous occasions, until Cotton passed away in Season 12. However, the revived season of “King of the Hill” manages to reintroduce Cotton into the storyline. In a fresh episode featuring Hank’s younger half-brother, Good Hank, Hank secures a victory over his problematic father by ensuring that his younger sibling doesn’t follow in their father’s footsteps. Even in this instance, Hank finds an opportunity to deliver one more bitter farewell to his father.
King of the Hill Brings Back Cotton in Season 14
In the Season 14 Episode 9 of “King of the Hill,” titled “No Hank Left Behind,” an older iteration of Good Hank makes a comeback, which leaves one pondering about the elapsed years. This reunion happens when the shin jelly company that Cotton frequently patronized decides to distribute a surprise settlement. As Hank finds himself taking his older brother Good Hank to a unique camp for men, their bond deepens as events, much like Hank’s life, tend to spiral out of control. Yet, amidst the chaos, it becomes evident that Hank and Good Hank are cultivating a fresh relationship now that they have both grown older.
In the original series, there was a significant gap between Hank’s age and that of his younger brother. By the end of the series, Good Hank was only two years old at most. However, as Good Hank has grown older, he is now at an age where he can interact with Hank in much the same way Hank used to connect with Bobby. On a more significant note, Hank now perceives resemblances of his father within Good Hank that he didn’t notice before. He sees the mistreatment he experienced and makes a conscious effort to guide Good Hank down a different path.
How Hank Beats Cotton One Last Time
In the initial series, Cotton’s death caused Hank to grapple with mixed feelings since he appeared to witness his father pass away (after professing hate), but was later deceived before the true demise of Cotton. However, this new season offers an opportunity for King of the Hill to delve deeper into the lingering trauma that Hank has been grappling with all these years. Yet, as Good Hank embarks on a more positive path in life, Hank finally says a genuine farewell to his father.
During their time together, Good Hank experiences a positive change. In a moment, Cotton predicts that to ensure Good Hank continues to thrive more than Hank has, he’ll need to stay alive. Now, in the present, Hank laments by saying “Too bad old man.” Given that his brother will avoid the hardships Hank endured during his upbringing, Hank can now lay this part of his past to rest for good.
