This 1996 classic movie is not only cherished but remains endearing, making it a must-see for Tubi users.
The movie under discussion is “Matilda,” a fantasy comedy starring Danny DeVito and Mara Wilson in the lead roles. Directed by DeVito, this captivating film was the screen debut for Mara Wilson. Based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel of the same name, it tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a gifted young girl who, upon discovering her telekinetic abilities, uses them to deal with her unrefined family and the wicked headmistress, Agatha Trunchbull, portrayed by Pam Ferris. Alongside DeVito, Wilson, and Ferris, the movie features Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz, Brian Levinson, and Paul Reubens in pivotal roles.
Despite earning just $47 million against its production budget of $36 million, making it a box office disappointment, the movie “Matilda” was highly acclaimed by both critics and audiences. It boasts an impressive 92% approval rating from critics and 73% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Known for its heartwarming narrative, “Matilda” continues to strike a chord with contemporary children, demonstrating its enduring appeal.
