A new single player action game inspired by a classic Korean novel has been announced for the PS5.
The game titled “Woochi the Wayfarer” is being released by Nexon, with development handled by one of its affiliates, LoreVault. This production can be categorized as a captivating blend of action and adventure set within a fantasy realm, reminiscent of the traditional tale it’s inspired by.
The Story of Chon Uch’i is about a historical Taoist scholar from the mid-Joseon era (around 1550 AD), but in this narrative, he has supernatural abilities – traits that are typically associated with a game character.

Nexon boss Park Yong-hyun said in a chuffed press release:
Woochi the Wayfarer offers a distinctive gaming journey rooted in Korean traditions yet universally relatable in terms of emotion. Our aim is to create a game that resonates with players worldwide, regardless of cultural background. This captivating tale demonstrates Nexon Games’ innovative development skills and rich industry experience.
The game is constructed with Unreal Engine 5, and although the preview trailer seems computer-generated, it may offer a hint of what the finished product will be like.
According to the press statement, the team is actively exploring potential locations across Korea for their project. They are personally visiting various cultural landmarks to authentically replicate the Joseon Dynasty period in stunning 3D detail.
The blurb further expands:
In this solo-player mode, you’ll be drawn into an engaging, action-packed adventure that combines captivating fantasy settings with Korean folklore creatures and melodies.
In this game, we anticipate dynamic character-driven actions, yet we’d prefer the fighting style to lean towards the stylish, fast-paced combat seen in Devil May Cry rather than the challenging, methodical battles of Dark Souls – it’s more about personal preference.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited about this upcoming title that transports us back to ancient Korea! The historic setting has me hooked, and though there’s no official release date yet, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building. So, are you as intrigued as I am by what we’ve glimpsed so far? Let’s hope it won’t be long before we can dive into this captivating world!
