I’m eagerly anticipating how The Boys will handle the aftermath of their chaotic Season 4 finale, but at the same time, I can’t help feeling a sense of foreboding since it signals the start of the comic adaptation’s last season, which means there’ll be a limited amount of time left to enjoy this twisted group of heroes, villains, and everyone in between. (I mean, everything!) But now, months beforehand, Antony Starr as Homelander is stirring up excitement within me with his heartfelt goodbye message.
The Boys finished filming the final season in early July, with co-star Erin Moriarty reflecting on Starlight’s journey almost immediately, and some celebratory Emmy nominations being announced a couple of weeks later. It took Antony Starr a little over a month to bring all of his feelings out about closing the book on Homelander — presumably a book about nursing — but he shared quite a few heartfelt feelings on Instagram alongside a series of bloody and candid behind-the-scenes pics.
Initially, Starr acknowledged the creative team of these young men for successfully producing such a show with minimal hurdles – although there were those two major setbacks in the industry, to be precise. In simpler terms, he praised the team’s accomplishments while noting the challenges they faced along the way.
It’s challenging to express just how extraordinary this journey has been – filled with so much development and personal growth. The team is truly exceptional, making this an unforgettable highlight of my career. At the outset, I had no clue about what lay ahead. We’ve been on a relentless rollercoaster ride that barely paused, except for those two hiccups – Covid-19 and strikes. However, aside from those brief moments, it continued to charge forward, leaving an indelible impression on the television industry. There’s simply nothing comparable to this experience; it stands alone in its own league.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but admire how the actor managed to capture the essence of Homelander, a character who, despite his consistently repugnant and unsettling behavior, leaves us with no choice but to find ourselves drawn to him. There’s just something about him that keeps us hooked – perhaps it’s the looming threat of getting vaporized by his laser eyes if we don’t!
Reflecting on the privilege of embodying this supremely powerful Super, Starr shared his thoughts:
I really enjoy watching this show, and I’m particularly fond of the main character. Honestly, I’ll genuinely miss the anticipation of going to work each day, not knowing exactly where our projects would lead us, but always knowing it would be an enjoyable journey filled with creative challenges. This complex character provided a platform for exploration and experimentation in ways I hadn’t anticipated, and I will forever appreciate this enriching experience.
Eric Kripke, the mastermind behind the final season’s emotional reunion of Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins in Supernatural, was given a well-deserved recognition in Antony Starr’s farewell post. His statement that the chapter is now closed does bring a sense of melancholy, as I am still hopeful that he might make an appearance in the forthcoming spinoff The Boys: Vought Uprising, and also in Gen V Season 2. However, the latter premieres before The Boys, which could potentially complicate matters.
Of course, I must express my heartfelt appreciation to my fellow creator Erik Kripke for crafting such a captivating character – [Erik Kripke]. Together, we’ve brought a unique creation to life. It’s been a monster to manage at times, but it’s something I’ll truly miss, along with you. Until the final season airs, goodbye. Closing this creative chapter will be difficult, but I won’t forget its magic, my friend. 🙏🏼
At the end of his post, Starr expressed gratitude towards all the fans of “The Boys” who are streaming the show on Amazon Prime and helping it maintain its position among the top shows on Prime Video. In his words:
“I’d like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for supporting ‘The Boys’ by watching it with your Amazon Prime subscriptions. Your views have kept our series among the Top 10 most-watched on Prime Video.
In simpler terms,
“You are essential to us, just like lifeblood! Without you, we wouldn’t be able to continue. Our fans are truly exceptional, and we have nothing but admiration for your discernment! Keeping it casual, folks. We’ve finished preparing something new for you. Can’t wait until the day we can reveal it! Until then, Homelander, signing off. Lots of love!
Naturally, Starr’s post received a flood of affectionate responses from fans who expressed a myriad of heartfelt and bittersweet remarks about his exceptional portrayal of Homelander, and their sadness at the departure of such a beloved character.

As of now, it’s uncertain when “The Boys” final season will be released, and it seems unlikely it will air during the 2025 TV schedule. However, let’s hope we start 2026 with some mind-blowing, debauchery-filled entertainment! Here’s to wishing the show premieres then too. (Homelander might chuckle nervously at that quip.)
