Following two fantastic collaborative episodes, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are joining forces again, promising a similarly enchanting partnership for the third time. This combo has grown into its own unique universe now, fostering a storyline that’s more seamless and surprising due to the level of audience investment. The third installment of this crossover is shaping up quite well, but with such an intriguing cliffhanger, future episodes could potentially be even more captivating.
Instead of standalone collaborations, writer Ryan Parrott has created a sequence of interconnected crossover stories. These tales accumulate over time, adding depth to both franchises. In the latest series, the narrative continues with the conflict already underway as Power Rangers and Turtles team up to face an alliance between Lord Zedd and Shredder. This combination is turning out to be a challenging adversary.
Delighting in the dynamic of these characters as they connect and find kindred spirits along their voyage is truly rewarding. The compatible duos such as Donatello with Billy and Leonardo with Tommy align perfectly, yet it’s intriguing to witness unconventional partnerships like Tommy and Raphael shine. Similarly, the villainous alliance of Lord Zedd and Shredder is captivating, hinting at an imminent betrayal between them that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Although their betrayal may be anticipated, it doesn’t diminish its intrigue in the slightest.
Artist Vincenzo Federici, colorist Raul Angulo, and letterer Ed Dukeshire skillfully blend the seriousness and humor of both teams, ensuring that while this adventure maintains a high level of intensity and risk, it also doesn’t shy away from moments of fun and whimsy. For instance, every Warbunny scene showcases his menacing side despite his cute bunny appearance, demonstrating the team’s ability to balance tension with the absurd.
The second half of the issue features equally impressive action sequences, with exceptional lettering work throughout. It’s delightful to witness various teams of Rangers and Turtles collaborating against a horde of Foot Soldiers and Putties. While there are numerous exciting moments, the book saves its most shocking twist for the end.
In this context, we won’t delve into that detail here because it might spoil something, but let me tell you, it’s going to make a significant, lasting impression on both teams – though in different ways. It changes the overall atmosphere quite a bit from the first two installments. If this scene isn’t misdirection, it could significantly alter the dynamic of the series as it unfolds, but if the previous episodes haven’t already provided rich detail about the world and the teams at its heart, it would just be a surprise for the sake of being shocking. But they’ve done an exceptional job so far of developing the world and those beloved teams.
The third installment of “Power Rangers Mighty Morphin” or “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is making quite an impression, and given the current trajectory, there’s an enormous possibility that the show will continue to excel even more.
