Another Live Service Game Is Killing Off PS4 Support

Beginning from November 13th, 2025, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), the pioneering Battle Royale shooter game, will cease its support for the PlayStation 4 console. Going forward, PUBG will be accessible and maintained exclusively on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.

On the PUBG website’s blog post, the studio announced that this decision was made to establish a “more consistent gaming experience on consoles, resulting in better graphics and smoother performance with upcoming updates for players on PS5. Furthermore, the studio aims to address ongoing crashes by implementing memory optimizations.

Starting from server maintenance on the 13th of November, you’ll no longer find PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This decision wasn’t taken lightly; it was made after thorough thought and careful consideration, with the goal of ensuring PUBG Console continues to grow and thrive in the long term.

Absolutely, using the same PlayStation Network account on a PlayStation 5 that you previously utilized on a PlayStation 4 will transfer your profile, purchases, and game progress. Notably, developers appear to be willing to issue refunds for those who can no longer play on PS5.

According to the blog post, the process for getting refunds on BATTLEGROUNDS Plus and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will vary based on each platform’s specific refund policies and procedures. If you have additional questions or need further clarification, it’s recommended that you reach out to the customer support team of the platform where your purchase was made.

Following the update, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on standard PlayStation 5 will operate at a frame rate of 60 per second with a resolution of 1440p. On the PlayStation 5 Pro, it will offer a 2160p resolution at the same 60 frames per second. The specifications for current-generation consoles were determined through rigorous technical evaluation and internal testing to guarantee the most stable and optimized PUBG gaming experience on consoles.

In the blog post, we find a side-by-side contrast showcasing the appearance of the game prior to a transformation and its current look.

In just a week, another significant online game for consoles, similar to Genshin Impact, will no longer receive support on the PS4 platform, as it has been announced that the game will be discontinued from the PS4 in April 2026.

As a devoted fan, I wanted to share some news about Genshin Impact that might affect us all. Unfortunately, due to constraints in hardware performance and platform application size, Hoyoverse has announced that future versions of the game will no longer support or update Genshin Impact on PS4.

Here’s what this means for us:

– The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store starting September 9th, 2021.
– Microtransaction purchases will cease on February 24th, 2022.
– After April 7th, 2026, all access to Genshin Impact on PS4 will be frozen.

I know this might be disappointing, but I believe we can still look forward to continued enjoyment of the game on other platforms like PS5 and mobile devices. Let’s keep supporting Hoyoverse as they continue to bring us amazing gaming experiences!
