Black Clover Gets Fierce Makeover From Kaiju No. 8 Creator

In honor of its tenth anniversary, the popular anime series “Black Clover” has returned for a new season and the manga has released three thrilling chapters simultaneously. To mark this special occasion, renowned mangaka such as Masashi Kishimoto, Eiichiro Oda, Tite Kubo, and Gege Akutami have paid tribute to “Black Clover” by depicting its cherished characters in their distinctive styles. Notably, some of these creators have highlighted their favorite characters, while others have collaborated to bring Asta and other renowned shonen heroes together on the same stage.

Naoya Matsumoto, the talented creator of the popular manga series “Kaiju No. 8,” recently paid tribute to “Black Clover” in an anniversary illustration. Known for his stunning artwork that has been a standout feature throughout the serialization of “Kaiju No. 8,” Matsumoto gave Asta from “Black Clover” a fierce makeover in this piece. The illustration depicts Kafka in his monster form alongside Asta, portrayed in Matsumoto’s distinctive art style. Remarkably, this seems to be a great fit for Asta, leading one to wonder why the two series haven’t collaborated before now.

Asta and Kafka Get All Fired Up in New Black Clover Anniversary Tribute

In a departure from their usually acclaimed artwork, Kishimoto and Oda’s tribute illustrations for “Black Clover” were met with criticism, as some believed they fell short of expectations. Remarkably, the newer generation of mangaka, including Kohei Horikoshi, Gege Akutami, and Naoya Matsumoto, have delivered standout interpretations of characters like Noelle, Mereoleona, Asta, and Kafka, respectively, showcasing their unique talents.

It’s disappointing to realize that since Kaiju No. 8 has concluded, it may be a while before we get to enjoy Matsumoto’s stunning artwork again. Yet, considering how perfectly Matsumoto’s art style harmonizes with Black Clover’s character designs, it would certainly be exciting to witness a well-executed crossover between the two series, drawn by Matsumoto himself. If such a scenario were to occur, Kafka and Asta could make for an entertaining, chaotic pair, much like Noelle and Kikoru, or Reno and Yuno. In the meantime, we can only cross our fingers that Naoya Matsumoto creates another series soon, but until then, there are several potential successors to Kaiju No. 8 that fans can explore, such as Rai Rai Rai and Tokyo Fears Rhapsody.
