In 2024, Colin Baker from Doctor Who and Terry Molloy from The Archers joined forces to perform Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson in a live radio play of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Now, they’re reuniting again for another Holmes tale.
On this occasion, the pair, who previously acted alongside each other as they portrayed characters in Doctor Who with Molloy taking on Davros, will be reprising their roles in a staging of The Sign of Four. This production will follow the live-on-stage format and be presented by Crime & Comedy Theatre Company once more.
What happened to Captain Morstan and who is the mystery person gifting his daughter a precious pearl annually?
Initially, it appears as an intriguing enigma, but quickly transforms into a chilling manhunt for a murderer, following the revelation of a vanished fortune, a sealed chamber, and the lifeless body of Bartholomew Sholto. However, who perpetrated these horrific, baffling crimes and what connection do they have to a map leading to the distant Agra Fort?
In “The Sign of Four,” Sherlock Holmes is pushed to his limits as he applies all his analytical skills to solve a mystery that originated in war-ravaged India and now haunts Victorian London. The relentless, ruthless gang behind it appears unstoppable, driven by an insatiable thirst for vengeance.
Could Sherlock Holmes manage to apprehend the wicked chief of their group with assistance from the Baker Street Irregulars and Doctor Watson’s girlfriend Mary? Might he also retrieve the pilfered riches, expose the grim secret lurking within the enigma of The Sign of Four?

Alongside Baker and Molloy, we have Kate Ashmead portraying Mary Morstan, David Sandham assuming the role of Jonathan Small, and Martin Parsons stepping into the character of Athelney Jones. Imogen Jones takes on the responsibilities as both stage manager and live sound effects operator.
From September 23rd through October 23rd, you’ll find the show traveling around, and all information about tickets can be accessed on the Crime & Comedy site.
In his own words, Baker shared that reprising his role felt similar to winning a prize during his school days. Instead of receiving a traditional gift, he was given a book – specifically, “The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes”. Even today, this cherished book and the Upper Fourth Handwriting Prize certificate are kept at home because he loved reading them so much.
I adore the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens, and I find it hard to believe that I’d ever get the chance to breathe life into Sherlock Holmes. These tales are simply amazing; they’ve proven timeless, and the opportunity to portray him is exhilarating!
While Molly mentioned, “Colin and I have been friends for a long time now, ever since our first encounter on Doctor Who back in 1984’s Attack of the Cybermen. We immediately connected, and I even got to play the role of Davros, the leader of the Daleks.
In 2022, Colin was the one who proposed I take on the role of Doctor Watson alongside his Sherlock Holmes in “The Hound of the Baskervilles” tour, and now, it’s delightful to rekindle our partnership as we embark on another timeless tale, “The Sign of Four.
