Over the span of 28 years, the manga “One Piece” has introduced an abundance of new characters, many of whom don’t make their debut for several years but continue to be adored by fans due to their significant roles in the narrative. Luffy has a unique ability to bring out the best in people, regardless of who they are. During the Alabasta Saga, he encountered Bon Clay, also known as Bentham, who served under the Warlord Crocodile. The initial encounter between Bon Clay and the Straw Hat Pirates was filled with laughter and a bit of chaos, but it didn’t take long for the truth to come to light. For a short while, they were enemies, but Bon Clay ultimately sacrificed himself to protect Luffy and the others.
Luffy meets up with his fellow combatant during the Impel Down storyline, and together they confront the antagonists once more. Not one to shy away from sacrifice, Bon Clay is ready to do it again if it means saving Ace, Luffy’s older brother, from imminent execution. Despite not making an appearance since then, Bon Clay remains a cherished character among fans for his selfless actions in helping the main character. His birthday is celebrated on August 15th, and to mark the occasion, the official One Piece portal site posts exclusive art featuring Bon Clay in his signature swan attire, reminiscent of his time working under Mr. 2 within Baroque Works.
What Happened to Bon Clay in One Piece?
In disguise as Magellan, Bon Clay stayed hidden while assisting Luffy to navigate through the Gates of Justice. This was their only means of escape, but it came at a cost – Bon Clay would not survive. Although Jinbe wanted to keep this secret from Luffy, he couldn’t stay silent due to the unfairness of the situation. As a token, Jinbe handed Luffy a baby Transponder Snail. Left behind on one side of the line, Bon Clay was about to face Magellan and the wrath of justice. With heavy hearts, they said their tearful goodbyes before Bon Clay exited the story, leaving his ultimate fate unclear.
Approximately three years following his disappearance, the plot twist in One Piece Chapter 666 disclosed that Bon Clay had astonishingly survived that fateful day. Now, he holds the position of queen in Newkama Land within Impel Down, Level 5.5. Instead of donning the prison garb of Impel Down, he is pictured dancing before his followers while adorning his elegant swan attire.
In the Manga titled “One Piece,” Chapter 666 belonged to the nineteenth installment of the series “From the Decks of the World” which appears on the covers of each chapter. These covers are brief narratives created by Eiichiro Oda, focusing on characters post their encounters with the Straw Hat Pirates. Each cover story spotlights a single character, and only Chapter 666 was solely dedicated to Bon Clay. Despite his popularity, Bon Clay has not reappeared in the manga since then, over a decade passing by.
