Emma Stone isn’t clinging to the past, but she is reflecting fondly.
More recently, the Oscar-winning actress reminisced about her fond experiences working on the 2012 film “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its 2014 sequel, during which she had the pleasure of collaborating with Andrew Garfield. They first met on set, and their relationship blossomed from 2011 to 2015.
“I mean I really loved doing Spider-Man,” Emma—who played Gwen Stacy alongside Andrew’s Peter Parker—reflected in an interview with Vogue published Aug. 14. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there.”
She added, “It was really a special time in my life.”
In addition, she didn’t just shout out about her ex during her time on set. She was also thrilled to have met people like Sally Field and Mark Webb, whom she found to be “wonderful”.
And it’s an experience she only looks back on positively.
What lingers with me for such a long time isn’t just the movie, but the people involved. As a result, my memories of this entire event are incredibly fond.
Even though Emma and Andrew parted ways a decade ago, they’ve consistently maintained a positive image of each other. Their actions have been particularly eloquent, with Andrew showing his support by giving Emma a standing ovation at the 2017 Golden Globes when she won Best Actress for her role in La La Land, two years after their separation.
Additionally, not too long ago, the duo enjoyed a heartwarming instance together at the 2025 Golden Globes in January. They shared laughter with Emma’s spouse, Dave McCary, who has been her husband since 2020.
Simultaneously, Andrew, currently associated with actress Monica Barbaro from the film “A Complete Unknown,” has been honest about maintaining contact with Emma. In 2022, Andrew disclosed that Emma had persistently texted him in an attempt to coax information out of him regarding his surprise role in the 2021 movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” However, he continued to keep this secret.
In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, I found myself responding, “Were you involved in the latest Spider-Man movie?” To which I replied, “Sorry, I’m not familiar with that.

I find her work truly inspiring, especially her poise and self-confidence. Watching her flourish into the talented actress she is has been a source of joy for me. It’s also delightful to share this mutual support with her. To put it simply, our connection is a beautiful thing.” (January 2017, speaking to Vanity Fair)
“I’m her biggest fan as an artist.” —Andrew to Vanity Fair in January 2017
I can relate entirely since I’ve experienced the same thing myself. Yet, due to its profound significance in my life, discussing it always feels uncomfortable. Consequently, I usually avoid bringing it up.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I tend to steer clear of such topics due to their inherent uncertainty and lack of substantiation. Engaging in these discussions often leads to the other party insisting that if they persist, eventually I’ll comment – prompting them to concoct more speculation. Therefore, I prefer to focus on the tangible aspects of lifestyle, where facts and evidence are more reliable.
“Emma Stone. I love Emma. She’s all right. She can come.” —Andrew to The Hollywood Reporter in 2016
“He’s still someone I love very much.” —Emma to Vogue in October 2016
