The ticker across the bottom of the screen suggests that a Daily Planet report has uncovered proof that Lex Luthor manipulated the message from Superman’s Kryptonian parents, which plays a crucial role in the movie.
At the beginning of Superman, a recording from Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van is shown, which they had made for Kal-El prior to his journey to Earth. Unfortunately, this message got damaged during its travel from Krypton, so Superman only heard part of it. He assumes that his parents assigned him the role of a symbol of hope and encouragement for Earth’s people, but the actual truth is shocking.
