One of Bill Murray’s Best Comedies Is Back on Netflix

It’s been announced that one of Bill Murray’s classic comedies is now available for streaming on Netflix. This popular streaming service has been enhancing its content library throughout August by adding new TV shows and movies, and this time it’s offering one of Murray’s most cherished films. With iconic performances in titles such as Caddyshack, What About Bob?, Lost in Translation, and his time on Saturday Night Live, Murray has solidified his reputation as a comic legend in Hollywood. The movie that we’re referring to was initially released in 1993 and had been absent from Netflix for several years; however, it’s now back and ready for you to enjoy!

In August 2025, you can stream the classic film “Groundhog Day,” directed by the late Harold Ramis, on Netflix. Bill Murray plays Pittsburgh weatherman Connors, who finds himself stuck in a time loop, repeating February 2nd day after day following his assignment to report on Groundhog Day events in Punxsutawney. The film also features Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray, Marita Geraghty, Angela Paton, Rick Ducommun, Rick Overton, and Robin Duke.

Murray has accumulated many outstanding films on his resumé over the years, but “Groundhog Day” continues to stand out as one of his finest works. This movie, a massive success in 1993 with earnings exceeding $105 million at the box office, was met with widespread acclaim by both critics and viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds the “Certified Fresh” distinction with a 94% rating from critics and an 88% rating from audiences, placing it among Murray’s highest-rated films. In terms of critical appraisal, it ranks fifth overall behind “The Jungle Book,” “Lost in Translation,” “Ghostbusters,” and “New Worlds: The Cradle of Civilization.

The movie “Groundhog Day” left a lasting impression on popular culture and is often recognized for paving the way for mainstream success of comedy films incorporating fantasy elements. Adored for its exceptional performances and deep exploration of themes like redemption and introspection, punctuated by numerous comedic scenarios, “Groundhog Day” stands as a timeless classic. Not only does it rank among Bill Murray’s finest comedies, but also among the greatest comedy films ever made. Currently, you can stream this film on Netflix, alongside the 2015 Netflix original Christmas musical titled “A Very Murray Christmas“.
