The Thursday Murder Club is immense fun to watch. Was it just as much fun to make?

The exceptional traits of Chris Columbus lie in his infectious energy and motivational spirit. Despite this relaxed atmosphere, we couldn’t escape the looming presence of a much-loved novel. We aim to replicate it as closely as possible, but there may be picky readers who offer constructive criticism.

Well, they might be, but actually I think it’s a very faithful representation.

Were you surprised to get the part?

Initially, when we were initially chosen, there were some individuals who disapproved, but that’s understandable. Interestingly, people had advised me to try out for it two years prior, saying, “C, you definitely should give this a shot.” At the time, I was unaware of the books, so I was quite ignorant. In simpler terms, when we first got selected, some people didn’t agree, but that’s okay. About two years earlier, people encouraged me to audition for it, stating, “C, you really should give it a try.” However, at that time, I had no knowledge of the books, so I was quite uninformed.

Although it seems unfortunate, I consider myself fortunate as I manage to avoid certain circumstances that could potentially lead to living with a wheelchair or Alzheimer’s. I continue to steer clear of those challenges in my life.

So you’re not quite ready to book into Coopers Chase yourself, then?

Even though I feel as if I’m still 26 years old, I eagerly anticipate a multitude of challenges to come in my life as an actor. Retirement and giving up are not words that resonate within our profession. Yet, when I reflect on the birthday celebrations I’ve had recently, I notice some friends who are no longer with us. I try not to dwell too much on it.

Victoria Wood, her co-star in Dinnerladies, passed away much too early in life. Her illness took me by surprise, making it an immense shock. However, it serves as a reminder for us to seize every moment and not let it cast a shadow over us. Each day, every hour, holds immense value and should be fully embraced. That’s the sentiment I find myself holding onto now.
