Naomi Watts Cries Sending Her & Liev Schreiber’s Son Sasha to College

Naomi Watts is feeling the back to school blues.

As a lifestyle expert, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of emotion as I helped my son Sasha, who turns 18 and is about to embark on an exciting new chapter in his life, prepare for his move to the University of Southern California. The School of Dramatic Arts at USC has been lucky enough to welcome such a talented young artist into their ranks, and I couldn’t be more proud.

“Step #1,” Naomi wrote on her Instagram Story Aug. 18. “Already balling!”

In a heartwarming moment, the 56-year-old (who also has a 16-year-old daughter named Kai with Liev) posted a photo showing her holding Sasha while Sasha rested her head on his shoulder. They were surrounded by numerous suitcases and their pet dog as they prepared for their upcoming relocation.

In the second image, you can spot Sasha embracing Kai warmly, while his little sister clings to them both firmly.

Not only Naomi, but many others are experiencing emotional moments regarding Sasha’s new journey, including Liev who expressed a touching message in response.

He posted on Instagram, ‘Feeling the tug,’ on August 17, next to a picture of him and his little buddy. ‘Going to really miss my partner in crime.’

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d rephrase that statement like this: “Speaking from personal experience, I must say that the student from USC is undoubtedly one of the deepest, kindest, bravest, and most beautiful individuals I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

Back in April, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I proudly announced that I’d be joining the California University family! To share a bit about myself, I took to the Class of 2029’s very own Instagram account and created a fun carousel post.

Hi there! I’m Sasha, hailing from the bustling heart of New York City. I’m completely devoted to pursuing my BFA in Acting at USC and couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Besides acting, my passions include soccer, surfing, skating, cooking, and socializing. If you’re interested in making new friends or even finding a roommate with shared interests (or not), don’t hesitate to get in touch!

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but gush over my stunning sister Kai! While Sasha dives headfirst into the world of acting, my sister has already made waves in the modeling industry. Back in March at Alessandro Michele’s Valentino fall 2025 fashion show, she stormed the runway like a true pro. Simply put, she’s been stealing hearts left and right!

Furthermore, it’s important to note that Liev Schreiber, father to 23-month-old Hazel and married to Taylor Neisen, swiftly refuted any claims suggesting that his and Naomi Watts’ children were afforded opportunities due to nepotism as a result of their chosen professions.

In March, when asked by TMZ, the 57-year-old replied, “I don’t give much mind to those who criticize me. Here’s a comparison: Suppose you are an actor and your child desires to make a mark in life. Wouldn’t they have the freedom to choose their own path instead of following yours?
