King and Conqueror stars tease episode 1 gore: “There was a big discussion if we were going to keep it in or not”

Just as any historical drama, King and Conqueror promises a wealth of intense battle scenes, grand fight sequences, and much more.

However, one specific scene initially seemed unlikely to be included due to concerns about it being considered excessive.

Norton remarked: “I feel kind of bad, I didn’t realise.”

Coster-Waldau playfully added: “It seems a reporter found something intriguing about it and considered it simply brilliant.

I was eager to share this with you as there was a debate about whether to include it in the show. Some thought it might be excessive, but I believe it offers a powerful insight into the character.

Director Baltasar Kormákur said: “I’m so happy for the extra, that it can be [kept in].”

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’d share an exhilarating tale from behind the scenes. In a heart-pounding fight sequence, I found myself in a surprising predicament – I sunk my teeth into my adversary’s nose! Yes, you heard it right, I punctured through his skin. It was an experience that left me shuddering, truly gruesome.

Kormákur said: “I didn’t tell you to do that!”

In reference to both the unexpected incident during rehearsal and the scene itself, Norton humorously commented: “Let me tell you, the fellow walked in wrapped up – quite comical, really. Yet, I found myself fully engrossed.

Indeed, it was Baltasar who came up with that brilliant idea. You know, those instances when you’re transported back to 11th-century England, where life is raw, chaotic, and intense. On that particular day, he suggested, ‘I believe we should bite his nose,’ and I responded, ‘Count me in.’

The eagerly awaited drama unfolds the tale of rival rulers, King Harold II and William the Conqueror, portrayed by Norton and Coster-Waldau in their roles.

The series transports us to a period preceding the Battle of Hastings, as depicted by the BBC as “a tale that marks the pivotal moment shaping the destiny of a nation and a continent for a millennium. This event’s origins can be traced back for many years, unfolding through two interwoven royal families vying for power across two lands and a tumultuous sea.

In simpler terms, the official description goes on to say that Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were fated to clash at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Initially, they had no intention of competing for the English throne. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and personal ambition, they were drawn into a conflict over who would ultimately rule England.

Apart from the principal actors, the ensemble of King and Conqueror features Emily Beecham playing Edith Swan-neck, Clémence Poésy in the role of Matilda, Eddie Marsan taking on King Edward, and Juliet Stevenson portraying Lady Emma.

This paraphrasing attempts to maintain clarity while using more conversational language that is easier for readers to understand.

The show features Clare Holman portraying Gytha, Luther Ford as Tostig, Bo Bragason playing Queen Gunhild, Indy Lewis in the role of Margaret, Elander Moore as Morcar, Geoff Bell as Godwin, Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Elliott Cowan taking on Sweyn, Bjarne Henriksen portraying Earl Siward, Oliver Masucci as Baldwin, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson in the role of Fitzosbern, Ines Asserson playing Judith, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson portraying Hardrada, and Léo Legrand as Odo.
