Doctor Who spin-off revealed to have major climate change element as star confirms new plot details

Russell Tovey, known for his role in The War Between the Land and the Sea, has hinted at some exciting aspects we might encounter in the Doctor Who spin-off, even revealing a significant storyline detail.

In the forthcoming spin-off, we will delve into the story of Tovey’s character, Barclay, as he becomes entangled in an effort to prevent a confrontation between humans and mythical Doctor Who enemies known as the Sea Devils.

While conversing with Rylan Clark at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Tovey shed light on the program, explaining, “The story takes place in our reality. It’s crucial that climate change is given greater consideration in artistic expressions, allowing us to truly grasp its implications.

Tovey described his character as follows: “This story revolves around an ordinary man who works in an office booking taxis for people. However, through a series of unexpected events, he transforms into a significant figure globally. He must grapple with this new role and its implications.

In a classic Doctor Who style, he’s rescuing the planet. It was an absolute delight to portray this ordinary man who found himself in his mid-30s or early 40s, living a seemingly regular life, unaware that this was his destiny.

I adore this work as it offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting that change is imminent at any moment. It’s something I feel incredibly proud of, yet simultaneously terrified and exhilarated by – all these emotions rolled into one. Working on it was simply extraordinary, and the scripts were nothing short of fantastic.

In this upcoming conflict dubbed “The War Between Land and Sea,” Tovey will join forces with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who portrays a Sea Devil known as Salt. Notable Doctor Who cast members like Jemma Redgrave (as Kate Stewart), Alexander Devrient (as Colonel Ibrahim), and Ruth Madeley (as Shirley Bingham) will reprise their roles from the primary series.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel an immense sense of pride when I reflect on our five-part series. To me, it’s nothing short of extraordinary – a testament to the creativity and hard work that went into its creation. It’s almost like we hit upon a good idea!

In an interview for the Pilot TV podcast, he remarked, “At times, after finishing a show, they express satisfaction such as ‘Excellent, well done, we’ve truly excelled.’

At times, material may undergo a post-processing stage, during which all aspects are incorporated. This involves working on special effects, audio, and color correction.

As a cinephile, I must say that I’ve stumbled upon a cinematic marvel – a work of art that surpasses even my lofty expectations! To put it simply, the magic on screen is palpable and truly extraordinary. I am overjoyed by this masterpiece and can wholeheartedly declare my satisfaction with it.
