The latest season of South Park is in full flow, with the first two episodes causing quite a stir immediately. Poking fun at the current U.S. administration, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are set to reveal episode three, which seems to be digging deeper into the same topic. A new preview for episode three highlights Washington D.C., and a familiar South Park character is back after an almost five-year absence from the show. Comedy Central’s dynamic duo hasn’t held back so far, so get ready for this character’s return!
In a delightful twist, everyone’s favorite talking towel, Towelie, is making a comeback after almost five years in the popular show “South Park.” The latest trailer shows him venturing into Washington D.C., picking up where we last saw him in the 2020 special “Credigree Weed St. Patrick’s Day Special.” Back then, he was trying to assist Randy Marsh with his amusing business antics. Towelie, a recurring character since the eighth episode of season five, has been a part of the boys’ lives for quite some time now. The upcoming episode will reveal what Towelie is up to this time around when it airs on Comedy Central later today, August 20th.
South Park’s Big Comeback
Despite facing initial controversy, the twenty-seventh season of “South Park” – co-produced by Paramount – has reached some of its highest viewership ever. For instance, the second episode this season, titled “Got a Nut,” was the fourth most-watched show during its time slot, showing that many people are still interested in the small Colorado town. This is all the more surprising because the episodes have been delayed due to Trey Parker and Matt Stone needing extra time for each installment’s creation.
The recent triumph of South Park suggests positive developments for Paramount, given their substantial investment in its latest comeback. After a legal dispute with Warner Bros Discovery over streaming rights, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone found themselves embroiled in another legal tussle with Skydance. Eventually, they reached an agreement, securing a whopping $1.5 billion to produce the next five years of episodes, with ten episodes planned for each year. This bodes well for fans of the show, as it implies we can anticipate approximately fifty more episodes, assuming it doesn’t get canceled prematurely due to its provocative themes.
South Park, originally airing in 1997, has significantly evolved over the years, yet its distinctive brand of crass humor and satirical approach to contemporary issues seems to have grown even more incisive. The return of Towelie in the episode “Sickofancy” raises questions about potential revivals of other classic characters and whether they might offer fresh commentary as well.
