Why Glen Powell Doesn’t Think He Should Play James Bond

The name is Powell, Glen Powell—so don’t call him James Bond.

In the excitement over who will replace Daniel Craig as Agent 007, the star of “Anyone But You” expressed reasons why he thinks he might not be suited for the role.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter on August 20th, Glen humorously stated, “I’m from Texas.” He went on to say, “While my family and I sometimes have fun pretending I could play James Bond, the reality is an authentic British actor should be cast for that role. It’s fitting for them to don the tuxedo.

It’s worth noting that among the American names, Glen is the one generating quite a stir in connection with the unannounced casting. On the other hand, some highly favored actors, namely Theo James, Henry Cavill, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, all originate from outside the U.S.

Theo, however, similarly echoed Glen when asked about taking on the iconic role.

Speaking to The Guardian in March, Theo expressed his disinterest in the role, stating, “I think many find it fascinating due to its significance in British cultural heritage, but personally, I’m not drawn to it.” He further added, “I believe there are more suitable candidates for that position. Frankly, taking on such a role would be intimidating. Once you start, there’s no turning back; you’re essentially opening Pandora’s box.

Regarding the possibility mentioned, Henry replied that he doesn’t have any details about the role-casting, and during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show in April 2024, he hinted, “Perhaps I’ve grown too old for it, or maybe not, we’ll find out soon enough.

Back in March, whispers were flying about a potential big break for Aaron, hinting at him landing the highly sought-after role. However, I personally wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet – as a reliable source informed me that while discussions have taken place, an official agreement from Amazon’s MGM Studios, responsible for the upcoming film, hasn’t been sealed just yet.

As for how Aaron feels about the prospect?

He informed Esquire magazine back in August 2023 that it wasn’t his place to comment. Instead, he concentrates on what he can manage at this moment, focusing on the matters directly in front of him.

Despite this, the actor from “Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging” also received endorsement from Pierce Brosnan, a prominent figure known for playing the special agent across four films between 1995 and 2002.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I wholeheartedly believe that individual in question has the potential to excel significantly, should he express his desire and commitment. If he sets his mind to it and seizes the opportunity, I am confident he’ll thrive wonderfully.

The former star of “American Pie” admitted in a 2021 interview on SiriusXM that he was given the opportunity for a role, but turning it down remains his major regret. He explained that at the time, he was questioning if he was prepared to delve into television roles, and it seemed like too big a step for him then.

David Rapaport, a casting director, shared with Entertainment Weekly that initially, he was eager for Alden Ehrenreich to portray Dan in the project, but producers felt that the 5-foot-9 actor might be too short to convincingly play Blake Lively’s love interest. Instead, Penn Badgley, who is roughly the same height as Ehrenreich, according to online sources, was cast for the role.

In his 2014 memoir, Lowe admitted he declined the opportunity to play McDreamy in a popular TV show. Mendes shared this information with Entertainment Weekly, stating, “I remember we went out for falafel with a man who was trying out for Archie.

Initially, it seemed unthinkable for anyone else to embody Capeside’s city-transplant character, but as Kevin Williamson shared with Entertainment Weekly, the role of Jen almost fell to future Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl. This was due to the pilot director, Steve Miner, who recommended Heigl, a star from his 1994 film “My Father the Hero,” to Williamson. He mentioned that at the time, Heigl appeared slightly older. Even though she was younger, he felt she possessed a more mature quality. According to him, she delivered an impressive audition, and the team was left in awe, exclaiming, “Wow, she’s good!

The friendship role between Dawson Leery’s lovesick friend Joey Potter (later played by Katie Holmes) and her best friend was pivotal in launching Holmes into stardom. However, the part wasn’t initially intended for Holmes; Selma Blair was supposed to have it. As revealed by creator Kevin Williamson to Entertainment Weekly, the role was eventually given up by Blair. According to Williamson, a last-minute audition tape from the Holmes family basement in Toledo, Ohio, played a crucial part in this decision. “That video altered my entire life,” he said, expressing his fondness for Blair before the tape arrived.

In a surprising turn of events, the actress who starred in both “The House” and “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” almost secured the coveted role of Carrie Bradshaw. She had even finalized the contract for it. However, she eventually became the backup option, with Sarah Jessica Parker being the producers’ initial choice for the iconic character. As Edelstein shared, “I was either going to get the part or not, it all hinged on whether Sarah Jessica Parker agreed. I had a completed contract, ready and waiting.” Although it’s hard to envision anyone but SJP as Carrie Bradshaw, Edelstein’s account certainly makes for interesting speculation.

However, casting director Rapaport felt she was not suitable for the role and eventually cast her on 90210 instead. “I adore Rumer,” he said to Buzzfeed, “She has blossomed into a fantastic actress and individual, but my decision was based on preserving the investment of a TV show where the lesser-known girls truly embodied the essence of the series and sustained it for six years.

Prior to landing the role on the laugh-out-loud horror comedy series “Scream Queens” starring Keke Palmer, she was also considered for the part of Iris West in the TV show “The Flash”. However, the role ultimately went to Candice Patton. As casting director David Rapaport explained to Buzzfeed, they initially had their eyes on Candice but were too early in the process to cast her. Instead, Keke Palmer and another actress were tested, but they seemed a bit young compared to Grant Gustin. When Candice was brought back for another audition, it was clear that there was an instant chemistry between them.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Iwan Rheon revealed that during the auditions for Game of Thrones, he was one of the final two contenders for the part of Jon Snow. However, fate had other plans as Rheon ultimately portrayed the much-reviled character Ramsay Snow, while Kit Harington became our beloved Jon Snow, a role we can hardly imagine being filled by anyone else. After all, it’s hard to picture an alternate reality where things turned out differently for these iconic characters.

However, it seems he was meant to protect the galaxy rather than the Buy More,” Schwartz shared. “And let me add, it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.

In the early stages of its creation, the creator of “Orange Is the New Black,” Jenji Kohan, disclosed that she met with a veteran actor from “Dawson’s Creek” – whom she mentioned is an avid fan of her show. However, Holmes had other commitments at the time, as per Kohan’s interview with TopMob News, and added that in the beginning, no one was entirely sure about what this new project would become.

Absolutely, Cobie Smulders suggests that the character Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother could have resembled Kate Austen from Lost, had their roles been reversed. This means that two of our much-loved shows might have taken a different path if the actress had played these contrasting characters initially.

Evangeline Lilly and she were both auditioning for the show “Lost,” as Smulders shared with TopMob News in 2014. Interestingly, Smulders flubbed her audition, but Lilly was grateful because it meant that Lilly got the role instead.

As a passionate admirer looking back, before I shattered expectations on Fox’s Empire, Taraji P. Henson confessed that she once auditioned to embody the formidable fixer, Olivia Pope, on Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal. In my thoughts, as I stepped into the room for the audition, I felt like this was Kerry Washington’s role. Why was I even here? It was indeed hers.

Is it conceivable for Agent Scully to live in Downton Abbey? That was nearly a reality, but the actress from The X-Files declined the part that ultimately ended up with Elizabeth McGovern.

In simple terms, it’s challenging to envision any other actress portraying Elena Gilbert in the popular CW series, but the network initially preferred the singer-actress. It wasn’t until the producers reconsidered Nina Dobrev’s audition video that they opted for the talented Bulgarian actress.

Instead of saying “The renowned singer was given the main part in a television series led by Bill Cosby, yet declined it to focus on her musical endeavors,” you could rephrase it as: “The well-known vocalist had an opportunity for a leading role in a series directed by Bill Cosby, but opted to chase her music career instead.

For enthusiasts of the show “Sex and the City”, Sarah Jessica Parker is undeniably associated with Carrie Bradshaw. However, it was once Dana Delany who was presented with the opportunity to portray the New York columnist. The Emmy-winning actress declined the role as she had previously worked on numerous projects featuring explicit content (such as “Nude Girls” and “Exit to Eden”) and preferred not to be connected with a production that contained the word “sex” in its title.
