The days have passed when Thor and Hulk were considered the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Every few years, a new extraordinarily strong character rises and alters the power dynamics. For instance, G’iah from ‘Secret Invasion’, who obtains the abilities of the strongest Earth fighters after interacting with the Harvest – a collection of DNA samples – demonstrates immense potential, as she can potentially match up against heavyweights like Thanos and Captain Marvel simultaneously. However, G’iah is currently absent from the MCU, and it remains uncertain whether she will be given another opportunity to showcase her powers, either in a new series or on the big screen.
One potential front-runner for the strongest character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) who might not require additional appearances is the Sentry. Robert Reynolds yearns to be a significant hero, but he also harbors a troubled alternate persona that struggles with cooperation. In the comic book series “Thunderbolts“, The Void almost consumed New York City entirely, and if provoked in the MCU’s Phase 6, he could potentially engulf two of its most powerful villains.
Galactus Doesn’t Have the Fighting Prowess to Take On Sentry
In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, Galactus arrives at Earth-828 as his herald Shall-Bal considers it a planet worthy of devouring. However, Galactus changes his mind upon discovering Franklin Richards, son of Reed and Sue Storm, who is believed to possess the Power Cosmic. To protect the boy, the Fantastic Four lead Galactus to New York City, causing the mighty villain to move out of his chair for the first time in years. Despite being a formidable adversary, Galactus’s massive size proves to be his main weakness. Working together as Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four come very close to defeating him. All they need is a slight helping hand from the Silver Surfer to secure the victory.
As a staunch advocate, I’d say: There’s no denying Sentry’s might; he’s as formidable as the entire Fantastic Four rolled into one. His extraordinary strength, the ability to fly, and other powers make him a force to be reckoned with. Should Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, present himself, Sentry could effortlessly thrust him into a portal that whisks him off to another corner of the cosmos or pummel him so mercilessly he’d be forced to retreat.
Galactus might try to unleash the Void, but his emotional depth is too shallow to navigate the dark expanse. Instead, it’s far more likely that Galactus would become trapped within the Void forever, rather than finding a way out. The main adversary of Phase 6 may have a better chance at outsmarting the Void, but they’ll undoubtedly encounter another significant challenge during the battle.
Doctor Doom Is Too Power Hungry to Defeat Sentry
As a fan eagerly anticipating Doctor Doom’s appearance in the MCU, I believe that if he’s anything like his comic book version, he’ll have a strategy for dealing with the Sentry. Perhaps he has a spell or incantation to rob the hero of his power, or maybe he possesses some technology capable of containing him. Initially, Doom might gain the upper hand against Bob, but that doesn’t mean he can control the situation indefinitely. One of Doom’s greatest weaknesses is his insatiable hunger for power, driving him to any lengths to seize it. Once he discovers the existence of the Void, I have no doubt that he’ll seek a way to manipulate it, but this ambitious plan may not go as smoothly as he envisions.
Engaging with fire carries an inevitable risk of getting scorched. In essence, given that the New Avengers wouldn’t be inclined to rescue Doom from his predicament, and they might be the last resort for help. Although Sentry may not have an imminent encounter with Galactus, a clash with Doom seems likely on the horizon. However, the king of Latveria should exercise caution as he might be setting himself up for more trouble than he can handle.
Thunderbolts* begins streaming on Disney+ on August 27.
