Every year, Toho Company takes time to honor Godzilla, the Titan of Terror, who has been a cultural icon for decades. In 2025, they’re continuing this tradition by planning celebrations in various ways. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is set to screen Godzilla movies in their theaters this summer, and the entire franchise is gearing up for additional events later in the year that could hold a few unexpected treats for fans of the beloved giant monster species.
Beginning in the upcoming month, the Alamo Drafthouse and Toho are partnering to showcase some of Japan’s most iconic kaiju movies. The lineup will feature films like “Godzilla Vs. Hedorah, Destroy All Monsters“, and “Mothra ” among others. This partnership isn’t limited to 2025; instead, these two companies aim to work together for an extended period, highlighting the legendary Godzilla. The collaboration will debut at the Alamo Drafthouse Valley Fair this summer with a selection of films, with more offerings planned in the future. Additionally, Toho has plans to reveal further surprises related to Godzilla in November.
Chaya Rosenthal, the Chief Marketing Officer at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, elaborated on their kaiju partnership. She said, “Ever since Godzilla made a thunderous appearance in 1954, Toho’s kaiju have ignited the imagination of countless movie enthusiasts, and our team is no exception. By unveiling this partnership at our largest and most recent theater, we can pay tribute to this rich legacy with extraordinary screenings, stunning lobby exhibits, and exclusive collectibles that are uniquely offered by Alamo Drafthouse.
Godzilla’s Future in Japan
Previously this year, it was announced that director Takashi Yamazaki will be back for a follow-up to his Godzilla movie titled “Godzilla Minus One“. Although specifics about the plot and release date are still under wraps, enthusiasts have been analyzing the closing scenes of the previous film to envision the sequel. Moreover, Yamazaki has suggested that future films he directs may involve Godzilla facing other monsters. The final scene of the original film also left certain intriguing hints for what’s to come.
Despite Japan managing to shatter Godzilla into fragments, it became clear in the last minute that the destructive monster was not truly vanquished. Pieces of the colossal creature began to heal, signaling the return of the King of Monsters. Moreover, the lead female character, Noriko Oishi, survived Godzilla’s earlier attack, although she displayed a mysterious black rash on her body. Fans speculate that this could hint at a future connection between Noriko and Godzilla in the upcoming sequel.
