Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has transferred ownership of its share in the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) to NODWIN Gaming, a gaming company with backing from SIE’s parent company, Sony Group Corporation, as per an official announcement.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has been announced as a global sponsor for the Evolution Championship Series, extending their support until 2028. The company intends to maintain its dedication to the fighting game community by utilizing the PlayStation Tournaments platform and developing products tailored for fighting game enthusiasts.
In a press statement, Phil Rosenberg, senior vice president at Sony Interactive Entertainment, explained that the acquisition of EVO along with RTS in 2021 was intended to foster the growth of the EVO community and shine a light on the talent and enthusiasm of fighting game enthusiasts worldwide. As Sony Interactive Entertainment shifts its role to become an EVO sponsor, the excitement surrounding EVO has never been greater, following a successful event in Las Vegas and plans for expansion into new regions. We eagerly anticipate assisting in the global expansion of EVO.
The newly appointed co-owner, Akshat Rathee from NODWIN Gaming, stated, ‘The team behind EVO has an unparalleled authenticity and fervor for the fighting game community. We aim to carry on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s excellent work, upholding the legacy of everyone who contributed to its success, while also inviting a new generation to embrace the essence of EVO.’
In simple terms, in 2024, Qiddiya joined as a global partner for the tournament, and they additionally declared an investment in RTS, a co-owner and operator of EVO. Furthermore, their global partnership with EVO will continue until 2027.
