Andy Reid had a dangerously close call at work.
As an unwaveringly devoted admirer, I can hardly contain my shock when I learned about the harrowing event that unfolded just feet away from our beloved coach, back in May of 2024. According to a riveting account published by The Kansas City Star, our coach miraculously survived an incident where a bullet shattered through the glass of his office, landing mere feet from him! My heart still races thinking about it…
In the span of three consecutive years starting from 2023, Reid, leading his team with Patrick Mahomes, made it to the Super Bowl three times. On the night of May 4, at around midnight, while working alone in the team’s training facility, an incident occurred as a bullet was fired, according to a report by the Kansas City Police Department, as obtained by the outlet.
Upon their arrival, the overnight security informed the officers that someone inside the building had reported hearing a strange sound and noticed what seemed like a bullet hole in a window, Captain Jacob Becchina explained to TopMob News. Luckily, nobody was hit, and there were no injuries related to this incident.
For approximately 15 months following the gunfire incident, Becchina stated that despite the continuing investigation, no one has been arrested or charged yet. In an interview with The Star, he clarified that there’s no evidence suggesting this event was aimed at anyone specifically or any particular organization.
He stated that since the structure was inhabited when the bullet pierced the window, authorities are treating it as a severe assault case due to the potential for harm.
Despite the secrecy surrounding the event, it was reported that, following the incident, the team decided to install reinforced glass (specifically, bulletproof) in Reid’s office as a precautionary measure.
TopMob News has attempted to contact both the Kansas City Police Department and the Kansas City Chiefs, but has yet to receive a response.
Three months past our stunning back-to-back Super Bowl victories over the San Francisco 49ers, the unthinkable happened – a shooting at our beloved NFL team’s stadium. As someone who’s lived and breathed Missouri football since I took on the coaching role in 2013, it feels like my own heart was struck that day.
He shared with reporters that their 2024 Super Bowl victory felt somewhat unreal. Winning back-to-back titles is extremely unusual for this football team and organization, but he acknowledged that it was a remarkable win because he knew how challenging it would be, given the tough season they experienced – filled with highs and lows throughout.
He made it clear that his star player, Travis Kelce, would undoubtedly excel. He expressed great pride in his team members for supporting each other and maintaining a positive attitude throughout their time together.
