It’s been announced that Karen Gillan has secured her upcoming significant character in the Amazon MGM revamp of the movie “Highlander,” joining a cast which already includes Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Marisa Abela.
The upcoming movie, due to be directed by Chad Stahelski from the John Wick series, is a remake of the 1986 fantasy film titled “Highlander.” This story revolves around Connor MacLeod, a secretive Scottish Highlander who discovers his immortality. He then learns under another immortal swordsman named Ramirez and engages in battles with numerous other immortals over the centuries, leading up to a climactic final confrontation.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Superman himself, Henry Cavill, will be stepping into the Highlander boots, originally worn by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 classic. But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Russell Crowe is joining the fray as Ramirez, an immortal comrade and mentor to MacLeod. Can’t wait to see these two legends bring their A-game to this remake!
Concurrently, Dave Bautista assumes the character of the merciless warrior known as The Kurgen, while Industry’s Marisa Abela steps into a prominent role as well.

Previously, Stalheski mentioned that the Highlander reboot could initiate a fresh fantasy series. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he expressed that our tale intertwines many of the same characters and similar themes, but also infuses aspects from all the television shows.
He went on to explain that they were working on something akin to a precursor or introduction to “The Gathering” (a 1992 episode from the series). This setup would provide them with an opportunity for further expansion of the property.
He went on to say: “If we manage to coordinate well and successfully implement this new feature, there are numerous creative concepts we’ve brainstormed for crafting engaging characters and turning it into a remarkable television series.
Gillan is primarily recognized for her portrayal of Nebula in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, but also features prominently in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, its sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, and Doctor Who, where she starred as a companion to the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) over three seasons.
Currently, she plays a role in “The Life of Chuck,” a TV series that’s based on Stephen King’s short novel of the same title. This intriguing drama unfolds the life of a man in reverse, divided into three parts, with Mark Hamill and Tom Hiddleston also starring in it.
Filming on the remake will kick off in September in Scotland.
